small RAM and Video watching capacity Slacko-5.3.3-4g

#1 Post by boof »

I have an old Laptop with only 512MB of RAM, prob only 32MB of video RAM.

I can only watch 3-4 minutes A/V until my lappy freezes up! Very disappointing.

Have Flash 11.xxxx

any sw fixes?

Sounds like the problem I had with alsa sound/flash conflict. The following may fix the problem for you (check my post below the one pointed to as well):

Please let me know if the suggestion works, as it did for me.

Hi Boof, if mcewanw idea doesn't sort it there might be overheating?
Video stuff takes loads of processing power and over time fans and heat sinks can get blocked up. Try checking temps and possibly blowing out any dust.
Also you could try running a test prog that uses the video and processor full blast.

Sorry to hear about your small ram.

Are you not able to make a swap partition? That usually helps a lot in cases like this.

I was catching up on my reading, and found this thread (page 3 has a .pet called flvideoreplacer-2.1.1-fx.pet):

I wonder if this would reduce the hardware loading?...
