I have an older Thinkpad 600E running Wary Puppy with a new battery that I am positive holds a charge (pardon the pun), that works just fine using windows 98 SE however, it shuts down [hard-- corrupting the HDD] about 30-60 seconds after I unplug the power cord. The battery monitor reports the battery as being at full capacity, yet still shuts down after 30-60 seconds of being disconnected.
Any idea why, or any tips to troubleshoot this? I really don't want to resort to going back to Windows 98 SE on this thing, which would use the battery without issue-- because Puppy Linux is much more optimized for such dated hardware. But I need this machine to be portable, it's meant for note taking at university... which with a problem like this, is a no go.

I now have a new problem-- because of this, my PCMCIA Wireless adaptor is no longer being detected. Still though, at least the battery's working now! But if anyone has any knowledge on how to get the wireless adaptor working it'd be greatly appreciated.

It's as simple as appending the following to the boot options in GRUB: add: "acpi=force acpi=noirq". This will make the battery work, and allow for your PCMCIA interfaces to still be loaded! :]. From what I can tell, Puppy automatically discludes the Thinkpad 600E from ACPI because of how old the BIOS is-- but the BIOS supports ACPI, so you need to manually override that.
