If you are downloading through your web browser, you are logged in as the unprivileged user spot. So the only place you can save is in spot's folder. After the download, you can move the file to its desired location.
IIRC, when you create a save file, you are given the option to change this. |
You can also save to /tmp/ as spot. Benefit of that is that you dont have to worry about save file space if you are using a frugal install.

skype |

Hello , I am a newbie and I just installed fatdog64 610 beta1. I liked it but I am having trouble installing skype on it. I am aware that 32 bit pet packages will not work. I found a skype sfs file for fatdog64 which I found on ibiblio. However, it seems that it does not work on this fatdog64 version or maybe I am not doing something right. I also noticed that if I try to load the skype sfs file using the sfs launcher, the sfs file cannot be chosen because it's unclickable.

Can you post the link to that skype you found? The sfs in ibiblio is old (skype version 2.x) and it is meant for Fatdog 500 but it still works in Fatdog 610 in certain conditions - I know because I use it. Notably it won't work if you use the graphical login manager.
If it can't be downloaded from sfsmanager, just download it manually from ibiblio or one of its mirrors. Then put it to the root of your save partition, and load it using System SFS Loader you find in the control panel.
Someone has contributed skype 4.x SFS for Fatdog, it is somewhere in the Fatdog 600 thread, but I haven't got the time to play with it yet.
Billtoo, my nvidia desktop isn't connected with two monitors so I can't test it there. But I have used zarfy (which is shown as "Display Properties" in Control Panel) with radeon open source driver and I can easily choose to either extend the screen, or show the same screen. You should give it a try
cheers!

Here is the link http://distro.ibiblio.org/fatdog/sfs/500/skype_static-2.2.0.35.sfs
I even tried getting skype 4.0 sfs from the lighthouse 64 site. Unfortunately, both of the sfs didn't worked. I moved the sfs files to mnt/home and get an error whenever trying to load the sfs files from the the launcher. It was like an error in mounting.

Here is skype-4.0.0.8

The main credit goes to meeki as he built version 4.0.0.7 for LightHousePup.

Both work fine on FD64 600 601 610

I have frugal install of Fatdog in /Fatdog directory of sad5 partition. I have the savefile in / of same partition. If I move the savefile to /Fatdog and change the boot parameters, it boots without savefile.
I don't want it in root '/' as I would like to test beta as well.
I have the following parm
| Code: | | savefile=ram:device:sda5:/Fatdog/fd64save.ext4 |
|

That's the right parameter. Add "showerr" and "pfix=nox" to see the error with savefile loading process. Also, what's sda5's partition type? Is it ntfs?
cheers!

What kind of device is sda - regular hard drive or a USB drive?
Didn't we have a similar discussion here?

Yes we had and it worked for USB Pendrive.
I had given Hardrive for RMA and got it back now. As long as the savefile is in root directory it works fine.
@jamesbond,
I tried showerr and Fatdog is searching for /fd64save file in all the partitions. May be someone can recreate and check?
I am booting Fatdog from Grub2 if that matters.

It works OK for me.

It sounds like some other OS on your hard drive is running Grub2. Did you run the Grub update procedure after changing the Fatdog entry?

Yes Linux mint 13 is using Grub2. I did update grub changes. I looked at error message and there are bunch of them, like:
1. can't stat /lib
2. aufs/kernel-modules/lib missing
3. HDIO_SET_DMA failed
4. can't find savefile /fd64save.ext4 in partitions.....
For frugal install I just copied the contents of the ISO, to /Fatdog directory. Hope that's alright ?

Just going thru Fatdog help documents and found something interesting under boot options:
| Quote: | | Note 1: parameters are case sensitive. Most of them are in lower case, so if you specify them in upper case (capital letters), it won't work. Also remember that all parameters cannot include space or colon. |
savefile parameter has colon!!!

spandey you appear to have omitted the word "direct" eg:
Mine looks like this:
| Code: | | kernel /fd610/vmlinuz savefile=direct:device:sda3:/fd610/fd64save.ext4 |
Yours should probably look like this:
| Code: | | kernel /fatdog/vmlinuz savefile=direct:device:sda5:/fatdog/fd64save.ext4 |
