I'm interested in the Calibre e-book viewer/converter (http://calibre-ebook.com/), but it has numerous dependencies including Python, Python Imaging Library, Qt, PyQt, ImageMagick, BeautifulSoup, etc.; the complete list is at http://calibre-ebook.com/download_linux. There's a binary package that includes the dependencies, but the installation script (see the same page) looks pretty strange to me. It looks like an SFS might be the best way to make Calibre available to Puppy users. Is there anyone here, with more expertise in such things than I've got, who might be able to come up with a Calibre SFS?

If you have Wine installed, you might want to try the portable calibre windows version....seems to work fine here.

None of that is necessary.

The Sourceforge folder has Calibre packaged for Linux in a way that it can be run like a portable application. It includes most of its dependencies. Give it a shot.

EDIT: In Slacko RC1, I extract Calibre into CalibrePortable, but almost anything should work. No spaces, though. I run CalibrePortable/calibre, and it prompts me for a library folder, $HOME/Calibre Library by default. Works great.

I've just uploaded calibre-0.8.29-i686.sfs, the latest release of the Calibre ebook utility. You can organize, read and convert your ebooks.

It has been tested in Lupu528, Slacko53 and Racy522. It will require you to set Locale to UTF-8 which can be changed at Desktop->Country Settings->Chooselocale country localizations (Checkbox at the Bottom)

There is a menu entry on the Documents menu.

I just downloaded and installed calibre-0.8.29-i686.sfs that you cited above. It works fine in Slacko53, but will not work in Wary53 or Racey53 because neither contain libdbus.

But, please, do you know if is it possible to load more than 6 sfs files?

Johnnywinter is right, no pet or sfs is needed, it is a full working portable linux app. Just download a recent version, here is a direct link, unpack it and left-click calibre. That is all.

In Slacko, just load the 7th sfs (and onwards) in the same
way as you loaded any of the first six.

I only tried 10 in Slacko, but I have a very vague notion the
limit may be 42.
