Yet another PupDrive oddity. This is the first I`ve seen of this one.

Clicking the sda1 icon gets 3 ROXs, but the sda3 icon gives a normal 1 ROX.
Any ideas how to fix it?
==============

I don`t care for the partition icons on the desktop.
I made a nice drive partition manager GUI once.

I have an idea for a slide-out transparent panel to replace Puppy`s drive icons.
It would look like the current drive icons when it was slid-out.
Would any one be interested in developing it?

YES, if it would be possible for me to do ---> depends on the programming language. Laughing

Sounds nice!

I had exactly the same happen to me with Akita, but it has stopped with the latest release (Beta 13).
Clicking on sda3 brought up 3 windows, two showing 'initrd_save', and one with 'home' (Frugal install with Akita on sda3).
I was beginning to think it was just me....

The problem has become academic, the PentiumD PC is overheating due to a bad fan.
Fan`s are pretty much made for the heatsink, so finding a replacement is farfetched.
So I`m back to my piece of crap Celeron PC.
It has the same HD but it doesn`t do the 3 ROX-Filers thing ( weird ).
This goes along with what I`ve said about Puppy`s behavior and hardware.

RHS; For Puppy JWM has panels, but I don`t think they can be transparent.
Plus it would be nice if it worked in any WM on any Linux O.S.

I`ve looked for a good panel over the years but I`ve never found what I want.
LXE ( I think ) has a panel I`ve never looked at, might be worth a look.
It`s size and it`s libs. sizes are important of course.
Xfce has a transparent panel I think, might be good also.

Other than finding a ready-to-go usable panel, BaCon is probably a good choice.
I`m too busy with the AppPkg builder to start something else.

RSH; Let me know what you think, maybe check out some existing panels.

If the overheating is in a laptop, I wanted to pass along that I worked on an ACER laptop that was overheating.
It turned out to be a solid block of accumulated lint that was blocking the exhaust port path for the processor.
I did a major cleanup of the fan, path, and heatsink and the laptop is again working correctly.
As to the drive icon and rox problem, I have to ask what version of Puppy/Linux you were using.

8bit; It`s Puppy005 PolarPup, as I said... It`s now academic anyway.

Yeah, here in the desert I`m constantly cleaning out the PCs. Dirt mostly.

When I was trialling Sheepy's slimpup he mentioned that he has set all his windows to 1 pixel less than the width of his screen so that it is possible to put the mouse at the edge of the screen and right click and get special functions (like desktop switching / programme switching etc) and I thought maybe that could be one way to access a drive icon panel (I never liked autohide panels because they pop out when you don't want them)

@sunburnt
Code:
rox . ~ /

The line above will open 3 filers - intentionally.

Try to see if there might be a leftover command in the icon when you right-click the sda1 icon and open the "edit" sub-menu. Maybe there's some left-over command on the second line. Or in the first line, if there's an sh script instead of a straight "rox" command. That could explain it.

musher0; Nope, it`s clean of cruft. Here`s the contense of the 3 text boxes.
Code:
/root/.pup_event/drive_sda1
drive ext3
sda1

greengeek; I had the idea of thin colored bars along the sides of the screen.
2 to 4 of them would fit easily on any of the sides.
Color helps identify things, like I always thought windows should be colored.
Hovering over them for 1/3 to 1/2 second would slide it`s panel out.
A panel for drive management, and another for the task bar, both at the left.
The task bar being vertical allows it to show many more tasks easily.
A third one for the main menu and the desktop is clean of all icons and clutter!
The side-out panels could be up to full height or width of the screen.

Example below: Red`s drive manager side-out, grey`s task bar, and tan`s menu.

What's the red, grey and tan you are referring to? I see nothing...

greengeek; You must be blinded by her headlights... Wink

But enough of dumb puns, the colored bars at the left side of the pic. Rolling Eyes

Yes, I like the idea of the drag out bars. They wouldn't take up too much real estate (especially on small netbook screens). Nice idea.

Not so much "drag-out" but more "hover-over and slide-out".
But I`m sure you understood the concept greengeek.

RHS; What`s your thoughts on the dev. angle for this?
