Wrong wl driver in pae version

#9 Post by peebee »

Ah - you've just noticed....

Hi Mick

The PAE version has the Broadcom wl driver from the k3.2.33-4g version installed rather than the k3.4.17-pae version......

see /lib/modules/3.2.33-4g

As a consequence it doesn't work :-(

Cheers

yeah peebee, bad one eh? All customers get a full refund.

The delta from 5.3.9.5 is already up, it had the bug too so the delta is 500k bigger. Lucky I caught it before it hit distrowatch.

Good work, 01micko.

Only 1 small quibble: if a USB drive is plugged it is not automounted and ROX-Filer window does not open. BK provided a bug fix for this in Woof:

http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=02835

Is this a bug or a feature? ;)

Hi Terryphi

Did you check the automount checkbox in eventmanager? The woof I used should have the fix but I didn't test it.

EDIT: yes it works, but an X restart is needed, see screen cap (right click a drive icon to get the eventmanager)

The fixed PAE iso is up at both mirrors (GMT 1130)

I've created windows installers for the non-PAE versions. You can find them here.

The PAE version should be up in a few hours.

Yes I did and neither X restart or reboot worked. However, I am using an upgraded save file from Slacko 5.3 so that may be the explanation. No problem anyway I have fixed it by installing latest /usr/local/bin/drive_all.

Any possibility of upgrading if nvidia driver needed?

#15 Post by peebee »

Hi Puppy experts....

I would have liked to upgrade my Slacko 5.3.3 savefile on my desktop to the new 5.4 but I've run into a problem with the nvidia sfs....

I've tried every sequence I can think of to remove nvidia before upgrading the frugal install (a safe copy obviously) to 5.4 but in all cases x refuses to startup after the upgrade. xorgwizard choose strangely seems to say that nvidia is still present even though I've removed the sfs and changed to another driver before doing the upgrade.

I realise that I do need to change the version of the nvidia sfs to match the new kernel - this is what I have been trying to do - unsuccessfully :-(

Would be interested to hear from anybody else in this situation or any thoughts on how to upgrade nvidia systems successfully.

A pristine frugal install onto the desktop works fine so I can always start from scratch but I've made so many tweaks to get the 5.3.3 system working as I want I'd really like to upgrade the savefile if at all possible.

Cheers

Little things do make for good system understanding.

#17 Post by gcmartin »

Don't know who to thank properly, but, THANK YOU 01Micko for the mouse-over change to the taskbar "Network icon": It now shows the current IP address of this PC...."Thanks for the understanding, and the implementation in Slacko".

All of these contributions makes for simpler and simpler use of the desktop and useful services to all users.

After you stop using the Nvidia driver could this be the problem?
If you have video blackscreen at boot try:

pfix=ram i915.modeset=0
pfix=ram radeon.modeset=0
pfix=ram nouveau.modeset=0

depending on your card of course.

NB:
i915 is for intel
radeon is for radeon
nouveau is for nvidia
After you change the video driver in Xorgwizard are you doing a complete reboot to start using the new driver?
Also selecting Vesa driver should help to eliminate some issues.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

JRE issues resulting via PPM

#19 Post by gcmartin »

The PPM is indicating that some JRE libs are missing.

Question
Even though they are not dependencies, per se, should there be a process to install these?

As you know, JRE is required for running some JAVA apps that I use and for LIbreOffice as well as others.

The PPM's pictorial are below.

Menu Items not working

#20 Post by tlchost »

Running 5.4 on bootable USB drive
Added LibreOffice 3.6.3 sfs, ran pinstall script for same

While LibreOffice works, the following menu items do not:

Business > Sheets > New Database
Business > Sheets > New Spreadsheet
Document > Compose > New Document

Which .desktop files should I look for and/or delete?

Thanks

Thom
