Subject description: Xpad notes are gray, no text, no edit.

xpad-4.0.pet (sticky notes) installed in Puppy 5.1 Lucid.

Xpad notes are gray, no text, no edit.

Starting in terminal reports:

"(xpad:15790): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: IA__g_object_set_valist: construct property "type" for object `XpadPad' can't be set after construction"

What is the solution?

Debian and other Linux users have reported this problem and this is a fix that has been given.

"This patch makes the problem disappear:"

Hi MikeMT,

In Puppy 5.2, I installed xpad from PPM (Puppy Package Manager) and it's working fine. I can create pads, choose colours, the right-click-menu is functional, there's an xpad icon in the tray, etc.. In short, everything looks okay.

You have used an xpad .pet. I didn't know a pet existed for xpad. Maybe there's a conflict between this .pet and your puppy 5.11? Can you trace back where you found the .pet?

Does the pet show up in your PPM in the installed packages list (from where you can delete it)?

One of the nice things about the xpad from PPM is that it automatically runs in your default language. (again, in lucid puppy 5.2)

Hi Bert,

I downloaded xpad-4.0.pet sometime back from some Puppy site.

I have used it in Puppy 4.2, and Puppy 4.31 without any problem.

It shows up in PPM. In fact, after a first install, I found the problem and uninstalled it from PPM thinking something was in error in the install. Installed it again, found the problem again.

Hmm, I did a search and Google found 743 forum posts about xpad.... Wink
I used this advanced google search with the words 'xpad' and 'pet' in the search field.

Maybe your version of xpad is an older one and you could try one of the pets fpr xpad 4.0?
If you're already using version 4.0, someone else will have to jump in here, because I'm out of ideas.. Sad

If no pet works for you, you could try the xpad from PPM
Good luck!

Bert,

If you are still following this thread, Look what I found, xpad-4.0.pet.

http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=450644&sid=b9aabf0dca5e58f205239f4b5315439

I downloaded it and installed it. Works well. The other xpad-4.0.pet must have been flawed.

I've downloaded xpad-4.0 from the link in MikeMT's post
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=450644&sid=b9aabf0dca5e58f205239f4b5315439
I'm running Slako 5.3.3, on a Compaq Presario 2100. Everything seems to have set up ok, the icon is in the tray all the menu's seem to work I can choose colours for the stickys etc... but the displayed colour of the sticky doesn't change after selecting foreground and background colours and setting up my font etc.. after all this I don't seem to be able to type a memo into the sticky unlike the one shown in Bert's post above.
I'm fairly new to Puppy so any help would be appreciated.

BTW - I noticed that there is new a xpad 4.1, has it been puppyfied yet?

Regards
