Tiny GIMP (5.5 MB!)

#1 Post by Iguleder »

Hey guys, nothing important to say here: I made a 5.5 MB GIMP package that acts pretty much like mtPaint in terms of features, with all plugins as a separate package.

It's a good replacement for mtPaint if you don't aim at the sub-100 MB side of the force. There are many things mtPaint can't do and if you need those small bits of functionality and don't want to waste your time on the slow download of a 60 MB PET, this one is for you (happened to me a lot!).

Sometimes you need an image editor and mtPaint isn't enough. That's where the tiny GIMP fits in. And if you wonder why I picked 2.4.x - 'cos it's much smaller, lighter and I remember I liked it a lot back then.

Compiled on 5.2.5, get it here.

Re-uploaded the package - I moved the PNG, JPG, etc' plugins to the main package because you can't really use GIMP without those.

If anyone knows, how does this differ from the 3.6mb GIMP that was around before? Cos I don't really know what that one was missing... Presumably this has something that one does not.

Could you recompile in Wary?

#5 Post by mcewanw »

Looked forward to using this but unfortunately it wouldn't also run in Wary 5xx (which is the most my machine can reasonably run). Any chance you could recompile a version for Wary? The error message in Wary was:

gimp: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.11' not found (required by gimp)

You can download the original cut down Gimp 'gimp-2.4.5-i386-stripper.pet' by ttuuxxx from 412collection.co.uk/graphic.php and it weighs in at only 3.7mb and works in Wary and retains much of the functionality. IMHO the best version of gimp by far.

The link you gave ends up at www.dimakrasner.com and shows a GoDaddy page and no sign of any download!
Thought you might like to know.

I even tried cutting and pasting the link into my browser address window and it seems that "iguleder" in the link is being changed to "dimakrasner".

Wrong link

Hi 8bit

If you click on the link in the post above yours. The one that points to 'http://412collection.co.uk/graphic.php' (without the quotes) this link does NOT take you to 'www.dimakrasner.com'

Once again, gimp-2.4.5-i386-stripper.pet can be downloaded from:

Thank you tuxtoo!
That helped in getting both the files.
Of course the link in the initial post should be edited by iguleder also.
And I will have to try out both versions as I currently have Gimp 2.7 loaded in Lupu 520 as an SFS made for Lupu 520.

Hi 8-bit

I should point out that the Gimp versions available on 412Collection.co.uk were compiled for puppy 4 series by ttuuxxx and work in Wary but not sure for other Puppies. (original post - http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 8ecdca2d80) and are in not the version that Iguleder refers to in the first post.

Sorry for the inconvenience, my domain is down because it expired for some weird reason (btw, got two of them - one is redirected to the other ).

I'll fix this in the upcoming weeks.
