Sub_title: crashed installed os on 1st partition

I updated the installed Linux os on the 1st partition, which crashed the os. It won't boot. I still have a Puppy save file on the 2nd partition which I can boot and run to remove the data that I want from the 1st partition, then install a more current Linux os. Puppy will remain unchanged and I can have as many different Puppies as I want.
I tried to apply all updates from the os repo.
Cheers
