A question for our Australian members:
Is it true that the standard Australian Christmas dish is barbecued chicken?
Do you people not have turkeys?
Or are we North Americans just obsessed with cooking these monstrous blobs of meat, and occasionally burning down our houses in the process?

Merry Belated Xmas All!!
rcrsn51 - Dunno about barbecued chicken as being an Aussie Christmas dish. At my parents house, we had gluttony for lunch....
Turkey, Lamb, Pork all the assorted sides of vegetables, potatoes, sweet potatoes, onion, pumpkin, brocolli, peas, beans, carrots, desserts etc. Twas good.
Then at the girl friend's parent's for dinner, it was BBQ Chicken (cooked with a beer can up its bum) and roast lamb with a similar assortment of veges.
From my experience, turkey is a fairly new addition to the christmas meat assortment in Australia. Many people just have seafoods, nice cold foods, coz it's the middle of summer here at xmas time. We don't, because my sister doesn't like seafood,..

Smoked turkey is great too. The bird will stay very moist if pulled from the spit when the temperature is sufficiently high to kill all of the invisible critters in the meat.
.... Hope y'all had a great holiday!
