full install of retro-precise 5.4.3 on Dell X1 hangs at boot |
|
I just booted Retro-Precise 5.4.3 from CD on my Dell X1, and did a full install to an 8GB ext3 hard-drive partition that previously contained Ubuntu.
All seemed to go well, until booting the new install. I see:
- RetroPrecise Puppy Linux
- Linux 2.6.32-45-generic
- root login
- fsck after improper shutdown
- creating a ramdisk and populating...
- Performing a pivot_root to the ramdisk
At that point, the boot is frozen.
Many thanks for any advice. Please excuse if this should be part of an existing thread, or feel free to move it.
Thanks...Lyle

I assume the Precise live CD boots and runs OK?
I assume you setup a boot loader to boot the full install?
First,
I would try a complete new install. There is a chance the install did not go good.
Prior to full install:
Make sure to completely remove any files on the partition the full install will be placed.
Any old Ubuntu stuff could cause problems.
Better yet, reformat partition using Gparted.
When you boot the first time to the new Puppy full install, do it from a completely powered off computer not just a reboot.
Do not have the Precise CD in computer.
