Hello slipsystem
can I launch xbmc from the menu entry?

if not how do you Launch it?
Yes. But I can't remember which section of the menu it appeared in.

Failing that you can find the desktop icon in /usr/share/applications. You can click on it or copy it to the desktop.

Or if you type xbmc in the terminal it runs a python script that is in /usr/bin. This sets up some debug/crash logging and then runs xbmc.bin.

If you run xbmc.bin directly it works without needing python

here's an sfs of the xbmc in the precise repo, including the missing lsb-release dependency. it also includes lot of extra repos for extra addons ... to install from the repos, in xbmc goto system>>settings>>>addons>>>get-addons and you'll see the extra repos. i would definitely install the icefilms plugin as it's excellent. the 1channel plugin is good aswell.
