small translation things

#241 Post by rodin.s »

In /sbin/pup_event_frontend changed this:

Code: Select all

LANG=$OLDLANG
  yaf-splash -bg orange -placement top -close never -text "$(gettext "Saving RAM to 'pup_save' file...")" &
  LANG=C
or maybe it should be done like this:

Code: Select all

LANG=$OLDLANG yaf-splash -bg orange -placement top -close never -text "$(gettext "Saving RAM to 'pup_save' file...")"
In /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit I manually translate lines 825 and 836:

Code: Select all

echo '<icon x="768" y="128" label="Сохранить">/usr/sbin/savesession-dvd</icon>' >> /root/Choices/ROX-Filer/PuppyPin

Thanks.
So a file has to have its own TEXTDOMAIN entry even if it's using strings from another file?

xload twice

#244 Post by phdzaps »

My single thing I can report on is that xload in /usr/bin ought to be a link, since it is also in /usr/X11R7/bin. I came across this because I disable xload so precise will run on older computers faster.

No, own TEXTDOMAIN is because some of the messages are not in petget___ui_Ziggy.

ui_Ziggy can use
export TEXTDOMAIN=petget___unpet.sh
because petget___unpet.sh contains everything that is needed by
ui_Ziggy.
(just in case Barry will woofify unpet.sh, I hope so :D )
If select multiple pets will be implemented text has to be changed to something like
select one or more....

Webcam problem

#246 Post by watchdog »

My old webcam Labtec, which I use with libv4l and v4l2convert.so, does not work fine in Precise. It works fine in Wary. In Precise randomly with guvcview it changes colours continuosly until it freezes. Also with mplayer. With ffmpeg (used by program "motion" and not directly) it works fine. I thought it were the kernel module, but why with ffmpeg does it always work? Excuse me for the tedious problem I am reporting.

FFConvert appears to be broken for me.
Unable to change the compression ratio of mp3's as in previous versions of FFC..

guvcview
With the latest version of Precise (updated via PPM), I used the PPM to install guvcview.
For displaying functional and able to make video captures, I changed preferences "Output Camera => YUYV" and "Audio Format => PCM".

goolwa_pup.
If you would provide appropriate debugging diagnostic data, the helping would be easier.

Hello,
I noticed that the awk version which comes with Puppy Precise is the 3.1.8 (Racy => 4.0.0)... making such a command (given by BK on his site) not working (-e option not supported?):

Code: Select all

msgfilter --keep-header  -i input.po  -o empty.po  awk -e '{}'
Cordialement.

gawk aka gnu awk 4.0.0 compiled in Upup Precise, basically same as Precise Puppy. I tried to compile latest gawk, but got failures, so I decided to compile 4.0.0 if it worked.
It has -e argument.

Test and give feedback.
Oh...awk is just symlink to the gawk.

goolwa_pup. You had problems with rtl8192cu driver. Check this thread:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 879#676879

The driver is not for retro precise, but for pae kernel 3.2.29. But if you can use the pae version, it might help you.

hi Pemasu
I tried the pet you made for PAE kernel with no luck maybe the driver needs to be compiled on non PAE kernel? i am using retro Precise (old laptop).....what information do you need?

in console, run pmodemdiag and post the created tarball from /root.

Do that without that non-working pet driver. Use pristine fresh frugal installation or live cd boot if possible, the usb wireless sticked in, when you run pmodemdiag.

VendorID=0bda ProductID=8176 KERNEL-MODULE=rtl8192cu

It means that the 8192cu or rtl8192cu should be working driver for your chip.

Unfortunately that 0bda:8176 seems troublesome. If either driver does not work, there isnt much what can be done. Not even latest kernels seem to have fix:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1030858

I reread your post above. You cant use my driver pet in non pae 3.2.32 kernel. It wont work. You have to test the driver in pae distro. Kernel modules certainly wont work in other kernel versions.

If you tested my driver pet in non pae precise puppy, it surely failed to work.
