Cute, but sexist |

From http://puppylinux.org/main/Overview%20and%20Getting%20Started.htm :
"If your friend thinks that she has lost data from her corrupted hard disk, boot Puppy and try saving her data! "
Why should the helpless friend be a girl?

Because many Puppy users are polite gentlemen. It is our knightly responsibility to save her data.

Superman doesn't save just the ladies, though he may give them first choice.

The translator will be sacked. The original French text used the neutral gender.

I often incorrectly use 'they' as there is no gender neutral singular, but could easily be fixed up with s/he and her/his.

There is no gender spesific expressions in finnish. I usually read he/she in manuals as gender neutral.
Nice to see that people reacts into it. Makes me feel language-blind....lol.
I still think that he/she expression does not help reading the manuals, but I have used them also....sometimes when I remember...which is not often.

I was taught, on pain of receiving a failing grade, to use "he" when I wanted to mean both he and she. I find "their" to be so awkward and against the grain that I just can't force myself to use it. Same with he/she or him/her. "One" works well, if one constructs the sentence correctly. I've never seen it used in a manual though.

Hi,
I have enjoyed this thread, but I wonder if the translator
was fired with enthusiasm or fired with enthusiasm or both.
FYI - I make all our important decisions, although my wife
does decide what's important.
My regards

Both. Also, s/he received second-degree burns to his/her political correctness.
Actually, ladies, there is no neutral gender in French, everything is either masculine or feminine. We don't have the true equivalent of the English "it", for example. My comment was a hoax !!! (hehe)

My Lords, Ladies and Gentlemen,
The half time score is:
Canada 4 - 0 England ( musherx hat trick, Jasper own goal).
The England coach has taken Jasper off, Replaced by Jean.
My regards
PS I have only two remaining glitches with my Puppy, both
concern words and I'll seek help here today or tomorrow
depending where and when one sits or stands.

That seems logical to me.
I'm no expert, but the way I see it:
(a) We are all he's...all human...all members of mankind...all men...
Regardless of our sexual plumbing [e.g. both in one person?]
But you can then have more specific types of men.
e.g. Womb-men=women [wame-men in Lowland Scots (old English?)].
i.e. Men possessing a womb, and able to bear children and give birth (birth=brith=[1st]breath?)
(b) Vir-gin=man-kin(d)
Vir [as in virile]=man.
Does this mean a female vir-gin has not yet demonstrated that (s)he [ex-he?] is that special kind of man known as a womb-man?

Off subject: that compensates somewhat for the cancellation of our current NHL hockey season. Not that I'm a big fan, but still, as a Canadian...

This sounds sexist to me, because it assumes that only women need help with this, and the men should fend for themselves.
No seriously, That is what I do think. Personally I'd keep the translator perhaps since screw PC mentality, and I'm not talking about computers there.
Hell, I even have a YT channel which has my somewhat unbarred comments on different things, but I'll leave that to tell people who may actually wish to watch my stuff.
