wmctrl-1.07

#1 Post by RSH »

Hi.

I have successfully compiled wmctrl-1.07 in LazY Puppy and made a .pet for it.

My intention is to use it to synchronize Openbox-Desktops and VarioMenu-Desktops. Changing the VarioMenu-Desktop switches also the Openbox-Desktop and hopefully I will get it to work to change the VarioMenu-Desktops when switching the Openbox-Desktops.
About

wmctrl is a UNIX/Linux command line tool to interact with an EWMH/NetWM compatible X Window Manager.

The tool provides command line access to almost all the features defined in the EWMH specification. It can be used, for example, to get information about the window manager, to get a detailed list of desktops and managed windows, to switch and resize desktops, to make windows full-screen, always-above or sticky, and to activate, close, move, resize, maximize and minimize them.
More Information to wmctrl-1.07 can be found here!

Hello, RSH.

Thanks for this, I mean for refreshing our memories about a very good wm complement (because it is far from new, eh? ...) :) I use it all the time in conjonction with aemenu and rox scripts -- to easily move around the desktops and resize some program windows to precise measurements, etc., etc.

You already know that there is another very good utility to complement wm's, called xdotool, yes? technosaurus has a puppy build somewhere on this forum.

The two do not have exactly the same functions, so they can be used sort of in alternance, depending on what you want to do.

Yes, I do know!

What I don't know, is: why did me one search for something like wmctrl, when the xdotool is already installed in LazY Puppy since the first version of LazY Puppy has been ppublished!

Must be something like a LazY-Puppy-Overwork-Blackout!

However: I've found it, compiled it successfully - so, won't remove it.

Thanks
