How to install GCStar Collections Manager?

#1 Post by linbie »

Hi
I am looking for a open source collections manager for my stamps etc

Have found the following

GC Star http://www.gcstar.org/index.en.php

Requires the following dependencies

Perl
Gtk2
gtk2-perl

I am a Linux novice so do not know how to proceed. If someone can give me some instructions I would be grateful. If someone can make a pet even better.

Previous discussions on the topic have not been very helpful

hi linbie

gcstar is in the slacko package manager, but you will need to enable the slackware repos first

1. open the Puppy package manager (PPM) and click on the 'configure' button
2. tick the 3 slackware boxes (slacky/ slackware etc)
3. press ok then exit the PPM and restart it to enable the repos
5. type gcstar into the find box and install it and all it's dependencies using the 'examine dependencies option'

gcstar also needs some extra stuff to work,...
You'll need the 'devx' installed http://ftp.nluug.nl/ibiblio/distributio ... _5.3.1.sfs
and also this .pet http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19554672/gcstardeps.pet (contains 'libsmbclient' and 'perl HTML')

good luck

I will try for Slacko from slackware.

hi pelo,

i'm presuming you're using precise puppy? Gcstar is a perl application , puppy has it's main perl modules in the DEVX , so install the devx and gcstar should work,
(as long as you got all the other deps from the PPM)

Among others- and something I keep forgetting..
Puppy has it's main xxx modules in the DEVX..

Well noticed : use DEVX

Well noticed : use DEVX ;
Thanks to you.
In fact none of the puppies run GCstar
It's a little bit ( a big bit ! ) ennoying to have to make a special distro only for GCstar !
For my own, i use it with Windows 7, but...
Available with Unbuntu too.
KDE makes it better with Tellico.
2015 :sorry, with devx, gcstar runs

TELLICO KDE collection manager

#12 Post by Pelo »

For me Tellico is the more user friendly. GCstar is not yet usable by Puppy
Look at our computers from our Youth: Oric Atmos !

Collection manager :Datacrow runs wth Puppy and JRE. See Musher0 forums

GCstar : I will try again, Byt I have already tried this pet.

No complains about GCstar ? We could include it In PPM, but In 5XX or Older.

Thanks for your help in making GCstar running with Puppy Linux.

Line 26 : what about UTF locale ? what is the opinion about That, Perhaps it's because it ignores FR as language.

Tellico will do it (Stamp collection)

#14 Post by Pelo »

I never succeed in getting GCstar running Puppy. Or it would be too big, huge.
DEVX : yes. What is that ?

Tellico is installed on Legacy OS.

Hello,

Dev_X is the collection of files and programs which you need to be able to compile a program from source in Puppy.

Developers have no time free to play GCstars or Datacrow.

I would tell our dear users that they can share their collections between GCstars and DataCrow. How-to ? tried once, but i failed.
With a little help from my developer Musher0 (who speak french), i would have succeed, but he is too busy making its Wheezy puppy running.
Developers have no time free to play GCstars or Datacrow.
Post on the forum of these two wonderful collection managers to progress.
I do a link on Puppy Facebook (the Nilson Morales one). People on Facebook are more searching fun than programming labour
