Looks like root is not the owner of your flash player lib. It may not stop it from working but might be an idea to "chown root:root libflashplayer.so" and check any of the other files that were installed with it.

Oscar, mine list the same, through all the upgrades I've ever done. Needless to say, FP runs fine.
That Sheldon too had *eventual* success, could you pass along the permissions on your file?

Hello Semme,
As you say it does still run OK. All I can tell you is that if you download the Flash Player files from Adobe (not sure what happens if you use Get Flash) they come through as something like "Owner, Group : 501, guest" if you look at Properties.
What I do is assemble the files I want including the preferences utility, desktop file and icon(s) in a directory eg "flashplayer11-11.2.202.261" and then just
chown -R root:root flashplayer11-11.2.202.261
so that all the files to be installed (manually or via a .pet) are then owned by root.
The permissions of libflashplayer.so downloaded from Adobe seem to be Owner=rw Group=rw World=r
The ldd command that you mentioned produces a warning that execute permission is not set so I have set those but I really don't know if any execute permissions are needed or advisable with this file or other shared libs. Most other shared libs seem to have them set for Owner, Group and World.

I believe that the latest version of GetFlash automatically corrects the permissions after the download from Adobe.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I figure it doesn't matter much on a box run by root. It hasn't caused any problems, so no need to address it, other than, maybe what Terry mentioned.. GetFlash handling the auto. Pretty much the same reason I figured it wasn't the issue Sheldon was facing..

GetFlash 1.2 |

Hi shinobar,
Please note that the above has ceased to function. It would seem that the server address has changed?

I have checked by attempting a manual download. It appears that there is currently a coding error at the Adobe site. When the correct file is selected in the drop-down options the server tries to serve the wrong file ( APT for Ubuntu instead of tar.gz for other Linux.)
Hopefully Adobe will realize soon that they have messed up and sort it out.

This link is working for the current release of Flashplayer (11.2.202.310):
http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/pdc/11.2.202.310/install_flash_player_11_linux.i386.tar.gz
As you can see it specifies a version number directory. Not very helpful for anyone creating an automated updater! However, you can identify the latest version number at this other location:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Is this an IMPORTANT notice regarding Linux and Flash? |
|
On this Adobe site for download, I see this:
On the website, wrote: | NOTE: Adobe Flash Player 11.2 will be the last version to target Linux as a supported platform. Adobe will continue to provide security backports to Flash Player 11.2 for Linux. | How should this be interpreted?

Exactly as it says on the tin. Security updates for Adobe Flash Player 11.2 are provided as required. Current version is 11.2.202.310. There will be no Linux version provided beyond the 11.2 series.

GetFlash 1.2 |
|
Hi Terryphi,
I agree that Adobe have fouled up but they have also changed the URL which will mean a revised version of getflash is needed. To restore functionality I commented out line 14 and added a new line 15.
Code: | # CHECKURL='http://get.adobe.com/jp/flashplayer/completion/?installer=Flash_Player_11.2_for_other_Linux_(.tar.gz)_32-bit' # commented out ETP
CHECKURL='http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/download/?installer=Flash_Player_11.2_for_other_Linux_(.tar.gz)_32-bit&standalone=1' # That may do the trick ETP |
That banished the EM and enabled me to go from 11.2.202.297 to 11.2.202.310.
In particular I dropped the jp (Japan) and added the "&standalone=1" bit. I also changed "completion" to "download".
Shinobar will need to check this however.

Nice work, ETP. Yes, your revised URL works for me too.
