Software - Audio meter to video?

Any one know of any (preferably lightweight) linux applications that can import an audio file and make a matching audio meter video file from it - squiggly lines, jumping bars etc to represent the audio playing?

Something like this in gnome-mplayer but as a video.

Audacious audio player has a spectrogram in window,
but I don't know if it's accurate??

...but a screen video of it might be useful to someone.

it requires python, and I don't have a scooby how to make it work in Puppy.
