The tg3 ethernet driver module does not work with my Broadcom NetLink 57788 (and some others, so I am told).

I downloaded the latest driver tarball from http://www.broadcom.com/support/etherne ... nk_k57.php and compiled it.

It works for me and I will attach it but I expect you will wish to compile your own.

I notice those *.ko drivers in that directory are not stripped so I didn't strip this one. Do we know if they are best left not stripped?

I burned a fresh iso and md5sum is good.

Booted puppy pfix=ram

The first thing I checked was Pnethood.

I'm happy to say that wary scaned and found my samba shares fast with no problems.

I'll be testing and report back.

Peace!

I went ahead and did a manual frugal install and grub4dos then created a save file.

I have success connecting to my print server after installing hplip 3.12.10a for precise.

Video is working good.

This seems to go good with my P4 1.7 with 768mb and a geforce 4 mx 440. Nice, Fast, Responsive.

I'll continue on testing.

Peace!

Can you guys who are interested in Pmusic, give it a test?

That was one thing I was doubtful about, as I am a bit confused about Pmusic and just what versions of ffmpeg it works with.

Wary/Racy 5.3 has Pmusic 2.5.3. The last of the 2.x series is available:

http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/pet_pa ... -2.6.7.pet

...in fact all earlier versions are too.

If you guys experience any difficulties with Pmusic, could you try that older one?

Note, Wary 5.5RC has ffmpeg 'ffmpeg-0.8.12-1-w5c.pet'.
Wary 5.3 has 'ffmpeg-20111002-w5c.pet'
If I recall rightly, the original ffmpeg lacked network support, and someone, it might have been shinobar, recompiled it, hence the different PET in 5.5RC.

...that's another thing, if anyone experiences problems with ffmpeg, you could try the older PET:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/pet_pa ... -1-w5c.pet
http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/pet_pa ... -1-w5c.pet

Pmusic is missing the tray icon thingy, but it is playing aac and mp3 streams for me here OK. I do use Pmusic, but not for handling extensive libraries and playlists or anything so can't comment on all the features and functions.

I think the 2.6.7 version is as high as you can go without upgrading gtkdialog, but I don't think it is a barrier as regards ffmpeg, I guess zigbert will clarify.

I am glad you have stuck with the 0.8.12 version of ffmpeg because certain apps that I like to use will not work with the later versions (yet?). The latest Slackos have become a problem for me because of this. I have always used the 0.8.12 version in Wary/Racy 5.3 and have never had any problems with it.

You are correct, the original had network disabled, I believe you uploaded a re-compile yourself and the 0.8.12 was from shinobar a little later.

Wary and Racy Puppy 5.5 Release Candidates

#14 Post by Billtoo »

I did a manual frugal install to an 8gb SDHC card formatted ext4, using
grub4dos as the bootloader.
Report Video 1.3 - Tue 26 Feb 2013 on Racy Puppy 5.4.91 - Linux 3.8.0 i686
Chip description:

product: RS780 01.00
X Server: Xorg Driver used: radeon

2276 frames in 5.0 seconds = 455.173 FPS
2275 frames in 5.0 seconds = 454.944 FPS

I couldn't get amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13.1-legacy-linux-x86.x86_64.run
to compile, it gave an error about missing tools, I have the devx and
kernel_src-3.8.0-patched.sfs loaded.
I downloaded and installed opera_12.14.1738_i386.deb + added midnight
commander.
EDIT:I burned the racy-5.4.91.iso to a dvd and then ran the puppy
remaster utility using that dvd.
It was going well until a message saying the puppylivecdbuild had no
bootloader in it, it quit the script then.
I've used the remaster live cd in the past without problems but it
doesn't work for me in racy 5491.

Manual frugal install of Racy 5.4.9.1 to the trusty old Athlon XP box.Sound and internet working and correct on boot....... X put up a fight.
Booted to an incorrect 1280x1024 resolution (with the vesa driver) and every attempt to exit to a prompt in order to use xorgwizard caused the computer to freeze necessitating a hard rebootAttempted several times..Finally copied the xorg.conf from Precise to /etc/X11/ so now successfully using the nouveau driver at the correct 1440x900 resolution.

Can Transmission for Puppy be upgraded?

#16 Post by gcmartin »

@AARF has attempted to help the community with a Torrent. This helps all of us as together download times would decrease significant over what iBiblio provides.

@AARF's torrent is racy5491 torrent

TRANMISSSION is the vehicle in most PUP distro, but the version we are using is 2.22 versus the current version which has fixed several seeding problems is at 2.77.

Sorry but also have to report a problem with X with Racy 5.4.91 on my nvidia geforce FX 5200 card.

First boot loads vesa at 1280x1024 but "exit to prompt" from the menu and screen goes blank. Typing "xwin" (blindly with nothing on the display) does bring it back.

Running xorg wizard from the menu also gives a blank screen but I can (again all blindly) press enter (for probe), the down arrow (to select 1024x768x24 instead of the default 1024x768x16), and then press enter again and I get the desktop back with nouveau loaded at 1024x768x24 and glxgears gives around 250 fps.

Oh, and the nouveau is loaded with none of the graphics missing by the way, so not sure what is going on there.

Recent ffmpeg PETs

#19 Post by npierce »

Yes.
OscarTalks wrote:You are correct, the original had network disabled, I believe you uploaded a re-compile yourself and the 0.8.12 was from shinobar a little later.
Yes.

Barry, you recompiled ffmpeg in March to add network support and gave it the "dash one" name (ffmpeg-20111002-1-w5c.pet). This you included in RC1 of Wary 5.3. But then someone reported that the new version didn't support x11grab, and you asked that person to try the old version (ffmpeg-20111002-w5c.pet). You never got a reply, so to be safe, you reverted to the old version for RC2, RC3, and the final Wary 5.3.

As it turned out, the old version didn't support x11grab either. Both versions should have, since you had compiled with --enable-x11grab, but because of a bug in ffmpeg's configure script (since reportedly fixed), the configure script reported no error despite not finding a needed library.

Anyway, in July shinobar recompiled ffmpeg again giving us ffmpeg-0.8.12-1, which has both x11grab and network support, and you uploaded it to the Wary repo.

used in Wary 5.2.2:
ffmpeg-20111002-w5c.pet 2011-Oct-02

used in Wary 5.3 RC1:
ffmpeg-20111002-1-w5c.pet 2012-Mar-17

used in Wary 5.3 RC2, RC3, Final:
ffmpeg-20111002-w5c.pet 2011-Oct-02

used in Wary 5.5 RC1:
ffmpeg-0.8.12-1-w5c.pet 2012-Jul-30

By the way, it's great to see a new Racy!

Same problem with Racy as I reported in the Precise k-3.8.0 thread.....will not mount an usb flash drive.
Flash drive is detected by the kernel as noted in the logs but no icon appears and Pmount doesn't even notice it's plugged in.
