The tg3 ethernet driver module does not work with my Broadcom NetLink 57788 (and some others, so I am told).
I downloaded the latest driver tarball from http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/netlink_k57.php and compiled it.
It works for me and I will attach it but I expect you will wish to compile your own.
I notice those *.ko drivers in that directory are not stripped so I didn't strip this one. Do we know if they are best left not stripped?

I burned a fresh iso and md5sum is good.
Booted puppy pfix=ram
The first thing I checked was Pnethood.
I'm happy to say that wary scaned and found my samba shares fast with no problems.
I'll be testing and report back.
Peace!

I went ahead and did a manual frugal install and grub4dos then created a save file.
I have success connecting to my print server after installing hplip 3.12.10a for precise.
Video is working good.
This seems to go good with my P4 1.7 with 768mb and a geforce 4 mx 440. Nice, Fast, Responsive.
I'll continue on testing.
Peace!

Can you guys who are interested in Pmusic, give it a test?
That was one thing I was doubtful about, as I am a bit confused about Pmusic and just what versions of ffmpeg it works with.
Wary/Racy 5.3 has Pmusic 2.5.3. The last of the 2.x series is available:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/pet_packages-noarch/pmusic-2.6.7.pet
...in fact all earlier versions are too.
If you guys experience any difficulties with Pmusic, could you try that older one?
Note, Wary 5.5RC has ffmpeg 'ffmpeg-0.8.12-1-w5c.pet'.
Wary 5.3 has 'ffmpeg-20111002-w5c.pet'
If I recall rightly, the original ffmpeg lacked network support, and someone, it might have been shinobar, recompiled it, hence the different PET in 5.5RC.
...that's another thing, if anyone experiences problems with ffmpeg, you could try the older PET:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/pet_packages-wary5/ffmpeg-20111002-1-w5c.pet
http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/pet_packages-wary5/ffmpeg_DEV-20111002-1-w5c.pet

Pmusic is missing the tray icon thingy, but it is playing aac and mp3 streams for me here OK. I do use Pmusic, but not for handling extensive libraries and playlists or anything so can't comment on all the features and functions.
I think the 2.6.7 version is as high as you can go without upgrading gtkdialog, but I don't think it is a barrier as regards ffmpeg, I guess zigbert will clarify.
I am glad you have stuck with the 0.8.12 version of ffmpeg because certain apps that I like to use will not work with the later versions (yet?). The latest Slackos have become a problem for me because of this. I have always used the 0.8.12 version in Wary/Racy 5.3 and have never had any problems with it.
You are correct, the original had network disabled, I believe you uploaded a re-compile yourself and the 0.8.12 was from shinobar a little later.

Wary and Racy Puppy 5.5 Release Candidates |

I did a manual frugal install to an 8gb SDHC card formatted ext4, using
grub4dos as the bootloader.
Report Video 1.3 - Tue 26 Feb 2013 on Racy Puppy 5.4.91 - Linux 3.8.0 i686
Chip description:
5.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon HD 3200 Graphics
oem: ATI ATOMBIOS
product: RS780 01.00
X Server: Xorg Driver used: radeon
X.Org version: 1.11.0
dimensions: 1440x900 pixels (380x238 millimeters)
depth of root window: 24 planes
# glxgears
2254 frames in 5.0 seconds = 450.673 FPS
2276 frames in 5.0 seconds = 455.173 FPS
2275 frames in 5.0 seconds = 454.944 FPS
I couldn't get amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13.1-legacy-linux-x86.x86_64.run
to compile, it gave an error about missing tools, I have the devx and
kernel_src-3.8.0-patched.sfs loaded.
I downloaded and installed opera_12.14.1738_i386.deb + added midnight
commander.
EDIT:I burned the racy-5.4.91.iso to a dvd and then ran the puppy
remaster utility using that dvd.
It was going well until a message saying the puppylivecdbuild had no
bootloader in it, it quit the script then.
I've used the remaster live cd in the past without problems but it
doesn't work for me in racy 5491.

Manual frugal install of Racy 5.4.9.1 to the trusty old Athlon XP box.Sound and internet working and correct on boot....... X put up a fight.
Booted to an incorrect 1280x1024 resolution (with the vesa driver) and every attempt to exit to a prompt in order to use xorgwizard caused the computer to freeze necessitating a hard rebootAttempted several times..Finally copied the xorg.conf from Precise to /etc/X11/ so now successfully using the nouveau driver at the correct 1440x900 resolution.
