Quirky 5.4.9

#1 Post by oui »

Hi

It seems to work really very well!

What is to do to remaster this big kernel?

Rgds

PS: example of text for grub.cfg (grub2)

Code: Select all

menuentry "quirky (on /dev/sda3)" {
    set root='(hd0,3)'
    linux /quirky5.4.91/kernel.qky pmedia=atahd psubdir=quirky5.4.91
}
Main thread on the new Quirky:

i got Quirky5491 up and running...

however, it just appears to be Racy all over again...

nothing new here to me...

perhaps, there are advantages to one big file...

but, i don't see any benefits...

i will stay with WaryTiny... just added jwm and a couple of other apps... it is super fast and very stable

I think it was more a proof of concept, the 'new' bit was the fact that it's a binary image

oh... okay... that makes sense if it's a significant technical improvement... but, from a user standpoint i don't see any difference... is it as fast as Racy? is it more stable? don't know?

again, more proof of concept, if you read barry's blog quirky is a test bed not a mainstream release, just for testing the clever stuff

Thanks for helping me better understand... i just hope the "clever" stuff leads to a smaller, faster and more stable puppy... that's all i am trying to say...

Hi

Barry Kauler did initially announce an all-in-the-kernel with about 50 Mb.

I suppose it is coming later and he will reduce it and include a Puppy just-X !

Or he did change his initial plan.

For this reason my question concerning remaster :wink: , to try to realize the initial purpose, a really smart Puppy just-X all-in-the-kernel and without some question by starting (no regionalization's setting up, no welcome in the kernel) and only shutdown or reboot (no other option) as we often need to make maintenance or command with Puppy some hardware etc.

Rgds
