Aha! Just booted again and this time the sound cards have loaded with the index numbers (0 and 1) the other way round, so the speaker icon in the tray has a red cross and the settings are messed up despite having run MSCW.

Clicking MSCW to open it is the easiest way to see which way round the 2 cards have been loaded (clicking "cancel" rather than "OK" to just close the window without running the wizard each time).

the music progress bar and track name do not refresh ie bar stays still and track name does not change with changing of track

:)
Is this a problem for all playing, or is it related to specific files?
- I have seen ffmpeg trouble reading info of some files - it doesn't like it's format. The good thing is that ffmpeg 'always' plays the audio.
- Could it be a naming issue. We have earlier seen that using some special chars in filename could lead to trouble.

Screenshot?

Thanks for reporting

hey zibert

ok, can't reproduce today? system was left up too?

it started when expanding to full screen then back again but working ok now, only small issue today is volume slider is to left (no volume) even though volume not muted, moving slider to right and back again makes volume decrease

I was streaming a video last night so maybe processing issues, will try and recreate and post

screenshot wouldn't show much as the issue was a difference between track displayed and track playing, if I break it again I'll let you know!!!

5.4.0.4:
No sound, can't switch it on. SB PCI card.
Still getting USA as locale, even after doing a pfix=ram, nox and setting LONDON in panels. Not a single developer is willing to address this oversight - doesn't happen in other distros. You da man, micko!
Firefox instead of Opera, blue instead of Earthrise. Retrogressive!
Sticking with previous version for the moment.
Otherwise, probably nothing you can't fix.

It's still fine.
nooby wrote:One difference seems to be these later ones use Seamonkey.
I prefer Firefox due to it has the extensions that I am use to.

If I remember correctly:
5.3.3: Seamonkey
5.4: Firefox or Opera
5.4.0.0 - 5.4.0.3: Opera
5.4.0.4: Firefox

Same here (see screenshot).

and /root/.pmusic/tmp/VOLUME is empty.
This helped me - /usr/local/pmusic/func_mixer, line 123:

Code: Select all

	if [ ! "`amixer -c $CARD_NR get "$SPEAKER" | grep 'Mono:' | cut -d ':' -f 2`" ]; then #mono
(just added an exclamation mark)
...and now works ok both with Master (mono) as well as, eg. Headphone (stereo, i.e. "balance"), though I've no idea if this won't break functionality for those for whom everything works just as it is...

@Zigbert: sometimes it's hard to tinker in Pmusic's internals, because for some reason (killall?) when I have, for instance, 'func_mixer' opened in Geany and I will close Pmusic - Geany disappears also.
...or is It some kind of "anti-hacker protection"..? ;)

Greetings!

Thanks to SFR who solved this bug!
A new version of pMusic is uploaded.

I do everything possible to keep intruders out of the pMusic code. It is both secret and sacred. :D
Well, this is a known issue with many of the pSeries apps. It happens only if it is in the first tab of Geany. At shutdown, pMusic reads 'ps' and kills all pids one by one. On the other side, I have not seen this behavior lately..... The code (-quit) is found in /usr/local/pmusic/func (line 606 in 3.3 branch)

Try the one on the previous page, TBH, I don't think it's any better, I might even roll back to the one in 5.4 and do a proper compile of vattery as alternate in PPM.

I have a bung battery in my compaq-cq-60 and this is what I get:

Code: Select all

# ./powerapplet_tray
Floating point exception
I might see if I can patch it. Old version works ok.

I can't detect any differences between the PAE and 4G versions of
5.4.0.4. They work well. Machines here are all older pentium 4 desktops.

Is there some long term benefit to choosing one over the other?

BTW, cheers to the inclusion of Firefox and Flash Player ... and the
choices of colors/themes, etc.

Re PAE/4G: Not really on your class of machine, but on slower than that I usually recommend 4G. There is a note in the release notes that PAE doesn't run on pentium-M processors with 400MHz FSB.

Glad you have had a good experience, hope it continues :)

I made an sfs of xfe and the latest midnight commander, the xfe
creates an entry in the filesystem section but also other entries for a file
viewer and a couple of other small utilties in other directories, I
don't know how to fix that but maybe you can.
The midnight commander sfs creates an entry in the filesystem section.

Thanks Billtoo,

That version of MC is in PPM already (your build :) )

With xfe, I split it out into main and DEV, built a pet with fixed .desktop files, now up at ibiblio. (DEV too, with FOX)

For those interested, a PPM update will reveal what I have been up to...

Hallelujah! Guy-on-a-bike is back!
Sound, vision(ATI), connection(wired) and Flash all working ootb. Just needing Opera reinstating...

Well done, again, m.

Oh, and attend to that infuriating oversight in the start-up options, should not be showing USA, when locale already selected from a 'nox' starting code.

not sure if anybody else has experienced this but firefox (19) in 5404/5405 seems to be quite 'laggy' - also laptop was running 8~10 degs hotter too (process load only ~ 15%)

thought it was my isp but download speed the same and constant so have just loaded chromium 25 sfs and browser performance back to normal

old news but abiword doesn't open to clean new page

micko, have you seen barry's blog on the mplayer fix for video playback?

:)
