Dropbox forgets authorization every boot Subject description: Every time I reboot my computer, I need to re-login to Dropbox. |
|
I have the normal Dropbox daemon installed, via cd ~ && wget -O - "https://www.dropbox.com/download?plat=lnx.x86" | tar xzf - (I had to add --no-check-certificate to the wget part, for some reason, but that shouldn't cause any trouble,) and it installed and ran perfectly, but every time I boot up, it forgets that I'm logged in. I don't know how to fix this.
Slacko Puppy 5.4, with Dropbox v1.6.17.

hi JamesTheAwesomeDude
yes dropbox started exhibiting this behaviour in puppy a while ago.
there is a portable version that still works on puppy http://sourceforge.net/projects/portable/files/Dropbox%201.1.43/download
there's a script attached below that grabs the portable dropbox and adds a menu entry and autostart entry, just unzip it and .left-click on the script
| Description |
|

Download |
| Filename |
dropbox.tar.gz |
| Filesize |
638 Bytes |
| Downloaded |
43 Time(s) |

Okay, will this version be a downgrade? I don't want a downgrade unless absolutely necessary (e.g., security vulnerabilities,) so what's different about this package? Also, why use an installation script when a Dotpet would work much better?
I know that this is probably just me being paranoid, and the Puppy Linux community would probably never do something malicious, but this situation is kind of creeping me out...

hi JamesTheAwesomeDude
yes it is an older version of dropbox version 1.1.43. it works as it should do though remembering your setup details. i'm not sure if it's this particular version that just works. or the fact that it's a portable app
it's from this site http://portablelinuxapps.org/
the script i posted is from the quickpet_precise program (in my sig) and just downloads dropbox from the site above. then adds a menu entry and an option the autostart dropbox. you can right click on the script and open it as text to see what it does.
i attached it because it's a convenient and small way to get dropbox.
still frightened ?

Something interesting: I recently made a Full install to my hard drive, and it remembers my authorization on every boot!

Lost dropbox credentials |

racy 5.3
Would be great to have an automatic login to dropbox - without having to login manually each time... call me lazy and perhaps a little liberal security wise - but this is a real pain in the butt!!

hi growler
i just tested the portable dropbox in a vanilla racy 5.3 frugal and it does work for me... although the taskbar icon doesn't show! however i just dragged and dropped the dropbox 'public' folder onto the desktop. i tested it by dropping a file in there and it worked fine, uploading the file automatically.
my script doesn't work on racy though so you'll have to download the portable yourself.
you then need to rename it to remove the space i.e. from 'dropbox 1.1.43' to 'dropbox1.1.43' or just dropbox.
then right click on it and choose 'permissions' then 'make executable/searchable'
finally, to have it autostart. drag and drop it to /root/Startup and choose 'link relative'
