It plays ok in UMplayer.
Converted to .wav with Audacity, plays with APlay ok.

This may be better - the eating one wasn't as clear.

PostPosted: Tue 14 Jul 2015, 08:43    Post subject: noise with aplay on selfmade sounds with audacity

Ive made the experience that to aplay the format of the .au or .wav file is very important. I've also tried making sounds with Audacity. I stick to the .au container and export it as a MONO, 8000Hz (project Frequency), 8-bit mu-law file.

The mu-law (or "U-Law" in Audacity) bit seems to be the important bit. If I save it as Signed-8-bit PCM it also just makes noise when played with aplay. But saving it as .au with U-Law in Audacity 2.0.0 does the trick.

Enjoy Very Happy

Edit: I attached one of my own sounds, the howling puppy, for my shutdown sound.

PostPosted: Tue 14 Jul 2015, 09:37    Post subject: trash sound script(s) where to find?
Subject description: Want to edit both, full trash and empty trash sounds

Now I'd like to edit the trash sounds myself, but I'm stuck:

Where can I find the script(s) that play 2barks.au when I put something in the trash and when I empty the trash?

where is the script that controls the trash icons?

Hope someone can help Confused

/usr/local/apps/trash

right click on it and choose 'look inside' and also click the 'eye' icon to show hidden files

systemmsg.wav is the .wav file you want to play (or link to it)
.DirIcon is the icon (or link to it)

Tiny bit off topic, but related.. Rox (or any) "Delete" needs a reminder (text or pop up) to refer you to use Trash. Especially for those coming from M$ and used to the Recycle Bin. Took me a bit to realize when I was a green noob that my Puppy took my command very literally. (Sorry to jack this. Embarassed )

I do get a kick out of adding sound! Thanks! Smile (adds to to-do list Cool) Edit: Done... both sounds are awesome!! But I just want to pick up my laptop and hug it when I shutdown now.. Laughing

Very good point charbaby, I'm going to have to put a "warning" on the desktop for the first time my bro starts his machine. I'm setting it up for him and he is even more a noob to Puppy/Linux than I am...

Smart Puppy...likes noobs... Smart noobs like Puppy. Wink

Good luck, have fun, don't worry if either of you "break" something. You can re-install in 30 minutes or less, and it's free. Very Happy 2 mins. if you have a save-file .bak'ed up somewhere. Cool
