How to boot with ATI Catalyst driver?

#1 Post by hal8000 »

Is there a way to create a Puppy CD and load the ATI catalyst driver
(fglrx module) at boot?

I have read this post.
I have used Slacko-pub 5.4 and downloaded the catalyst module.
However on reboot slacko always loads the open source radeon driver,
which works ok, but the fan on my ATI HD5770 card is noisy without the proprietary Catalyst driver.

Booting from Slacko CD I can install the catalyst driver and run

modprobe fglrx
aticongig --inital

and restart X server to load the catalyst driver.

My remaster on CDRW contains the catalyst driver but don't know how to load the fglrx driver or blacklist the radeon module, automatically booting from CD.

Thanks in advance.
P.S. Please move post if this is wrong forum

hal8000,

You can try using BootManager in Puppy to blacklist your opensource driver and to load the proprietary driver.

Go to Menu --> System --> BootManager --> Load kernel modules

Hope this helps,
