Slacko 5.5 feedback and bug reports
Neither Slacko5.5-4g or Wary5.5 see or have an icon appear
when a blank cd-rw, dvd-rw is inserted. Pmount also doesn't
see them.
Both burn-iso-tocd and pburn see them; but may burn an
iso that gives kernel-panic.

IIRC, there was a problem in Precise where audio CD's were not being detected at all. This required changes to tools like probedisk and these changes are probably now in woof. So they will affect subsequent Puppies.rjbrewer wrote:Neither Slacko5.5-4g or Wary5.5 see or have an icon appear when a blank cd-rw, dvd-rw is inserted. Pmount also doesn't see them.
I will do some tests with this. Both burn-iso-tocd and pburn see them; but may burn an iso that gives kernel-panic.
[Edit] Using Wary 55, I burned some ISOs using burniso2cd. Like you reported, the blank discs were not detected. However, the burned CDs all booted correctly without kernel panics.
I believe that whatever burning problems you are having, they are not related to the issue of disc detection.
I should have mentioned; the burning problems tookrcrsn51 wrote:IIRC, there was a problem in Precise where audio CD's were not being detected at all. using the same iso's, devices, and methods.
Don't have a clue why.

closing jwm windows [solved]
EDIT: This is a feature, not a bug!
Thanks to anikin for pointing out the thread where this has been discussed. I don't like this feature, but the change in behavior is too trivial to gripe about.
A trivial issue with slacko5.5-PAE (no user changes made after bootup), not seen in slacko5.4-PAE:
When closing a window, as the arrow cursor nears the "x" in the upper right of the window frame, the arrow changes to a rectangle. This is not desirable, but is a very minor issue.
Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a way to stop the change in cursor indicator, i.e. to revert to the jwm behavior in slacko5.4-PAE?

Re: closing jwm windows [solved]
@Tote: It doesn't look like this "feature" can be disabled. Thanks for the reply.
@anikin: Thanks for pointing out that thread. I would have gone through life thinking it was a bug. Now I know it's a "feature".

Sigmund,
Does this give you a clue?
I remember there was a reason, but that may have only been for the 13.37 version
Does this give you a clue?

You can try to remove cdrdao with the uninstall builtin packages tool , on a check it seems not needed at all, and also libao.
Thanks

So I installed slacko to a 2Gb usb drive. WOW. Everything "just works". Broadcom wireless works- sound buttons work- brightness works and all apps that I installed so far (chromium,BibleTime,Pan139) ran fine and all dependancies were installed fine.
Way To Go!!
1 question, how do I add xfce to the mix? It is my favorite.

Hi,
I'm a newbie using puppy linux but I had no problem until last weekend.
Frisbee stops to work ( don't detect wireless connections) and I want to uninstall it, but with no success.
I uninstalled it from setup/installed packages but it still working.
I stop it from start-up boot but it still working.
How can I get rid of it ??
I'd appreciate any help.

I seem to have a problem with rebooting.
If I shut down, shuts down regularly, no problems.
However, if I reboot, it gets stuck after the:
"acpid: exiting
# _"
line.
4G version.
I have checked the md5.
It does this every time, tried about 10-15 times at least. USB or hd installation, does it in both cases. I tried USB at first, the installed to the hard drive.
(edit: by the way, it only does this only on a Dell Inspiron 1501, works fine on another computer I tried)

Finally upgraded this old dual-core box up to Slacko 5.5. Zero problems.
