hi radky,
installed fine, nice piece of work.
i had the notion that there was a
way of invoking standby using acpitool.
does the standalone acpitool.pet
do the job? do i need to put files
in particular places ?
cheers, mm

Hi mmmrr,

The pet you reference is probably acpitool-0.5.1-i486.pet, which installs the acpitool executable to /usb/bin/.

Keep in mind, the acpitool utility does not function equally in all notebooks, but you can test by invoking 'acpitool -s' from the commandline, or by selecting the Standby option in PupShutdown.

Also, pemasu's Upup Precise has multiple additional scripts which support suspend functions through the power button or by closing the notebook lid. You may find this functionality very useful.

Good luck! :)

thanks again, radky
i've used the acpitool pet on other pups
it wouldn't work on the target compu/os,
gave a no access to /pro/acpi/sleep notice.
that's why i'm trying yr fine app but i did not
see a standby button in the display of buttons.
does the standby button only appear when
standby is possible, ie, when acpitool is present?
i'll keep you posted. cheers, mm

Hi mmmrr,

The suspend option (standby button) will be available after you install the acpitool pet. You must restart PupShutdown after installing the pet.

It seems acpitool alone may not work for your notebook, but the additional scripts in pemasu's Upup Precise may be of value to you. PupShutdown also supports the /etc/acpi/sleep.sh suspend script in Upup Precise, so you may want to try this option.

Close without Saving

#88 Post by mikeslr »

Hi Radky,

It occurred to me that adding an option to PupShutdown to enable closing without Saving could come in handy. Is it possible? No pressure or rush. Just a thougtht.

Hi mikesir,

Possibly, you are using an older version of PupShutdown? :)

In the current PupShutdown-2.01, the Preferences module provides options to 'save changes and exit' and 'exit without saving' (last two button in right-lower corner).

Also, the same options are available in the secondary module for 'Configuration options', accessible from the Preferences module (third button from right-lower corner).

Thanks for your question.

A suggestion :

I was using the hungarian Precise version.
It has pupshutdown and I noticed that the pop up help text for the
8 main buttons in the window has translations into Hungarian.
So the button label is hungarian and the popup text is Hungarian.
I don't speak a word of Hungarian so I have to guess the meanings.

It would be better if the popup text was always English.
The label text would use gettext of course.

what about hungarians with English

#94 Post by Pelo »

what about hungarians with English ?? Post to s-kami , perhaps hungarians will accept. however you can run there puppies in English, but not french or Spanish.
English is still a foreign language for people not having used it at work, for instance. US and UK have trouble with what is our everyday glass of wine, continuous translation.. it was the first reason for craating puplets, to get access to Puppy for locale population. Don't change it for USA

I make this answer in English. I never more guess the words because i learn every day. I translated for Pupjibaro the pupshutdown menu in French..
It s out of question we worked for a coming back to English in local puplets.
However gnuhasz and s-kami are king in Hungary. They will decide.
