fonts not displayed correctly (intel/kernel>3.x) (Solved)
Hello
The way letters appear on the screen is pretty disturbing. It's not only in Seamonkey browser, certain other windows have it as well, including Word processors and and even system tabs.

yeah, its even worse as now my desktop is affected
What ive tried was lcd fontwizard but it didnt change anything. Also some programs like xchat are working properly. As I have tried many various puppy relases, I can say that like 20% of them were affected. I have 2GB DDR2 RAM, Dual Core Intel and integrated Intel vid card, afaik 82945. It could be related to refresh rate, but I don't know how to change it.

I agree with linuxcbon, it looks like the font is corrupt - have you tried changing to different font?
5) you can remove pre-installed packages. however on a frugal install they will be hidden unless you remaster. see-

Updates:
1. I have tried several fonts, including Microsoft ones, but it's always the same. I can almost assure that testing by testing documents in Abiword I concluded that problem always occurs.
But I have launched this OS on other computer with different video card(intel integrated here and nvidia there), and problem didn't occur. My guess is then - either driver or xorg settings.
2. This issue has been solved.
Added 8 and 9 in first post.

Wary 5.5 and Racy 5.5 are known to have problems with nVIDIA cards. I'm not sure about Precise -- I thought I'd heard it was known not to have that particular issue, but I've been wrong before...
IIRC Slacko 5.5 is known not to have those problems.
My suggestion: try Slacko 5.5, or replace the nVIDIA-based card(s) with ATi/AMD-based cards. You could also go to another version of Puppy entirely -- there are a tremendous number of Puppies, and some are a better match to certain hardware, as opposed to others. Unlike Windows, where the latest and greatest is so for reasons of theoretical security (namely, it's the least insecure version yet -- note the wording there!), Puppy really has no such problems. People are still running 3xx and 4xx Puppies quite extensively, and one of our more popular Puppies for really old computers is based on the 2xx series. That's going back a ways!

1) it would be useful to list the exact video cards that show the fonts incorrectly-
this information is available via
PuppyMenu > System > HardInfo
possibly under PCI Device
for example-
6. Packages compatibility, I am not sure but am I able to use newest software versions that come as tar.gz/tar.bz2 without issues?
If you use the Puppy Package Manager the software should be fairly stable. Are you looking for anything in particular?
7. Java, if I will need it for certain websites, is there any secure way of doing this? I have searched through all precise packages and it seems that versions that are there are very outdated. Which one should I install?
the latest version Version 7 Update 17 has been package by Shinobar and TheZenKitteh as a SFS (use SFSLoad).

BTW as Flash mentioned it is easier to have one question per thread. So please break out these questions to there own threads.

Can you edit your first message with only one question and also change title to one question ?
What gives
I read that many people have problems with display with intel graphics.
Some people advice this workaround in xorg.conf :
What gives
Code: Select all
lspci | grep VGA

I am not sure where to put that config tweak you posted, as my file seems to use a bit different scheme. And yeah, I will remove all those other points too, just give me more time.
