Dutch language pack (Nederlands)

#1 Post by Bert »

UPDATE Oct.2013: new langpack available.
ImageNieuw taalpakket beschikbaar.

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

Dear Puppy friends,

After a long and luxurious holiday in Lubuntu, I'm back;) (for a while  )

This is a very humble start to create a Dutch langpack.
But I think it is already very useful for daily use.

The pet can be downloaded from:

http://rapidshare.com/files/2651700205/ ... 130412.pet

The translation work has been done from Pemasu's raring, as that is the most recent woof-based puppy at the moment.

Known problems (for which I've no simple solution):

* Seamonkey doesn't speak Dutch after the .pet installation (despite the example I saw and followed in L18L's excellent German langpack.)

*Abiword not translatable so far

*So far Gparted, Screeny, Glipper and Parcellite refuse to be translated.

As said, it's just a beginning...but we'll get there 8)

There's a lot of vacant places in the Dutch Translation Team. Anyone interested to join is most welcome.

Special thanks to L18L, rodin.s, ASRI éducation, esmourguit and shinobar for the incredible amount of help and patience with my non-technical mind.

are already accustomed to working with them (as opposed to .strings).
No idea how to convert to Abi's native .strings files, thus I have extracted them from source for you.

Test it please, it is version 2.8
You can put it into your langpack-template

Have fun :D

Thanks a lot, L18L!

I installed the abiword.nl you posted.

No luck! I think this raring version of Abiword (2.9.2) is unstable. It's a development release.
(e.g. if I click 'preferences' in the 'edit' menu, Abiword crashes.)

Maybe I should start using another puppy for this translation work, as Raring is maybe a bit too avant garde. (although very stable already)

From your screenshot I see an old little problem resurfacing, which I thought was solved

Image

On my monitor it looks like this:

Image

Give me a shorter Dutch word for 'installeren'

I will soon upload a new langpack. In the first one all the English doc files slipped in.

Looking forward to your Momanager for dummies..
My copy of momanager now refuses to make a .mo from a .po.

Think I'll start all over, with a fresh Puppy and more beer

Thanks again.

That is the doc_strings.nl
if you click that then momanager thinks (not really) the translation is done. I do not use these, see langpack_de....

Oh no. What I will do next is a QuickLanguageSwitcher

You mean errors are detected and displayed?

A good idea
and don't forget to
move langpack-template to /mnt/home
and symlink back to it

Code: Select all

ln -s /mnt/home/langpack-template /usr/share/doc/langpack-template

Code: Select all

 MSG=`echo "$line" | awk -F '"' '{print $2}'`
 NEW="msgstr \"$MSG\""

 done<nl-NL.strings
creates something like

Code: Select all

msgstr "Info over %s"

msgstr "Auteur:"

msgstr "Omschrijving:"

msgstr "Titel:"
but needs the original LANG file to merge the
msgid
's
into it in the right places.

Bert 1900+ Lines .. hopefully not for nothing .
Probably also send it to http://www.abisource.com/contribute/translate/

abiword.mo is useless

#11 Post by L18L »

abiword.mo is useless

abiword.po is "just for translating"

The procedure "HOWTO convert abiword.po to strings and templates" is unknown to me.
That's the problem.

That's why I don't really like abiword.

Note,
similiar problem is with CUPS:
there are not used cups.po files.

abiword and CUPS are using PO files just "because of convenience for translators".

Karl,
if you install abiword_nl (8 posts up) you can launch Dutch abiword:
LANG=nl_NL abiword
and see it is Dutch without abiword.mo

[edit] idea HOWTO:
cp Bert's PO file into source and

Code: Select all

make
should do it

"Last-Translator: Hannie Dumoleyn <hannie@ubuntu-nl.org>\n"
"Language-Team: Dutch <vertaling@vrijschrift.org>\n"

Thus this appears to be good for me.
No need to edit
Just

Code: Select all

msgfmt nl.po -o /usr/share/locale/nl/LC_MESSAGES/gparted.mo
Bert,
I am describing this step by step not for you only.
Others may also benefit from this.
If you want just the gparted.mo then please say "woof" and I send you the file.

 glipper: You might need a version of glipper compiled --enable-nls (it is runnuning Dutch on my system)

 parcellite: never seen that

Hmmm... Bert's nl-NL.strings file seems to work for me :

( Puppy-430, abiword-2.6.3 , invoked as LANG=nl_NL abiword -- and truely abiword.mo seems to be ignored or searched for in wrong location )

echo "${LABEL}=$MSGID" >>en_english.strings
echo "${LABEL}=$MSGSTR" >>nl_NL.strings

That creates almost half of the .strings file out of .po . Missing some
MESSAGESTRINGS ie :
DLG_MetaData_Author_LBL=
DLG_Annotation_Author_LBL=
DLG_PLUGIN_MANAGER_AUTHOR="Auteur:"
which should be as the 3rd one .
Also special chars into html ie &=&
DLG_Options_Label_AutoSaveInterval="&Interval:"

DLG_Options_Label_AutoSaveInterval="&Interval:"
and xml header and footer ie
/>

<Strings class="AP"

Thank you very much Karl and L18L for your continuing support!

I'm a little late with this reply due to real life commitments.
I've also been chasing a mysterious hardware problem. After the (one year old) ssd drive more or less :?: died, there have been strange and non-logical errors when running from usb

I think that partly explains my problems with momanager, poedit and geany.

Last night I installed Precise Puppy 5.5 to usb and it started to become unstable after 10 minutes.
Rebooting and a total freeze after 5 minutes.

I switched to an older pc and now precise runs ok.
BUT, still unable to get momanager to translate simple little proggies like e.g. GdMap. Momanager moves it happily to the left column, just like e.g. Glipper, but no Dutch appears in GdMap.

Everything seems okay while translating, both from Geany and Poedit. Saving with no error messages at all. A .mo is created, but non-functional...

Oh, I am NOT the dutch Abiword translator! Just like you did Karl, I copied the nl-NL.po from the Abi-site. But knowing next-to-nothing about commands, I pasted it in Poedit.*) I think the way Poedit works is that your name is automatically added as the translator.. :?

Abiword...Sigh.;It used to be so simple to 'translate'. I've done it many times for my own use with the string-files taken out of shinobar's Quickset, just dropping it in /usr/share/abiword/strings+templates. That does no longer work..

I tried Karl's proposition with

Code: Select all

msgfmt -o abiword_nl-NL.mo nl-NL.po
but indeed the .mo produced did nothing.

Image

L18L, parcellite is the default clipboard utility in Slacko. It's quite nice also.

Glipper: so you compiled Glipper-source with -enable-nls. Is it as simple as finding the source code and doing

Code: Select all

make glipper-source-enable-nls
? (I've never compiled) and then replacing the old Glipper with this new one?

And now for some good news: Gparted is dutchified! The .po in the link you gave worked flawlessly in Poedit! (as usual I wasn't too careful and downloaded the gparted live-cd as well..133MB  )

Time for some more questions gentlemen  :

1.
L18L wrote:and don't forget to

So far I forgot to do this...would it be possible to explain why to do so in a few words?

2. My root folder is getting rather crowded with all the momanager files..Should I keep them there, or move them safely away or just delete them?

3. Wouldn't translating be easier and faster just using Poedit or Geany and using Manager Mo as a perfect checklist?

Thanks again. Your efforts are much appreciated. And yes, I'm certain others will find all this useful too. ( Like I learned things from the Danish thread Maans started.)

*) edit: no, I saved it as a file in Geany, then opened it in Poedit...

Basically yes

Code: Select all

./configure --prefix=/usr
make
make install
I had compiled a nls-enabled glipper...
I do not know how to make really small executables.
I know upx but there are also other tricks.
But the expert on this is Karl.....
[edit] There is the solution  [/edit]
Bert wrote:...So far I forgot to do this...would it be possible to explain why to do so in a few words?
This is only interesting if you extend the default langpack-template like I have done.
- use pinstall_hacks.sh
- add some files which momanager does not take, simple example:
/root/my-documents/clipart/LIESMICH-clipart.txt
(BTW I see now that I have just translated content of README-clipart.txt. I like not to overwrite when changing locale.....)
If the template is in /mnt/home it can be used from different puppies.
(no special langpack for different puppy)
You make langpack_nl in another puppy (starting with your langpack from 1st puppy)
Bert wrote:2. My root folder is getting rather crowded with all the momanager files..Should I keep them there, or move them safely away or just delete them?
Here is how I do it:
-create langpack
-move langpack to /mnt/home
-test langpack from newly startet puppy pfix=ram
-delete momanager* files (directories and tgz)
Bert wrote:3. Wouldn't translating be easier and faster just using Poedit or Geany and using Manager Mo as a perfect checklist?
No and yes.
No
For the shell scripts (most of puppy is shell script) you would need the POT file to begin. It is created by momanager and not saved.
Momanager creates the MO file in the tgz format for easy exchange
(I think mcewanw, zigbert and rcrsn51 would like to receive some translations this way)
Yes, waiting more than 1 minute for manager can be annoying
fastest is
start with momanager to select
cd /tmp/momanager
LOOP
-edit PO file
-use msgfmt from command line in /tmp/momanager ( automatically by poedit?? )
-test
END LOOP
maybe select again in momanager to create tgz

It works perfectly now in Precice Puppy 5.5.

Gratefully,

Always glad to help :D
Actually I got those files from here:
http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/pupp ... 486-2s.pet
As they work for both 2.8 and 2.9, I include both folders (Abiword-2.8 and Abiword-2.9) in langpack_es, for Barry's Puppies use 2.8 and 01micko's and some puplets, 2.9.

Off-topic: Has anyone made a LibreOffice 4 SFS yet? So far I made langpacks for a v3.5 SFS that works in all official builds. I'd do a v4.x SFS myself using Get-LibreOffice but my connection is too slow for that (mobile phone through PGPRS Connect).

Actually I am a dummie, that's why you always roll eyes to me, like this ---> ----I'm joking
I'd love to do that right now, but my job is first - I have to write 12 paperwork files for a subject called English for Technical Purposes (of a three year career Bachelor of Computer Science), and 72 paperwork files for three Computer Science courses. I have to organize a writing schedule.
I've been taking many screen captures, I even made a PDF in Spanish recently. I think I can write something as simple and direct as possible, with further information, and include many pictures. Just don't set a deadline to me. I like to write tutorials as brief as possible so that reading the info is quick, time-saving, although when the subject itself is somewhat complex I can't avoid longer explanations.

BTW, I finally got my glasses, my monitor has a filter, and my Puppy is full of dark themes. If I'm less time online it means I'm preparing my classes (or I caught the dengue fever --not kidding, I live in the border with Paraguay and the money exchange is on their favor, so they are coming to my country to buy goods, and they are bringing the dengue  darn mosquitoes  ).
