ERROR, cannot find Puppy on usbflash bootmedia

is what I get when I want to boot my freshly installed Puppy from a USB stick. (the live CD boots just fine)
How can this be fixed?

Using Dell Latitude D810 with SATA HDD
and 256MB USB 2.0 USB stick

And, by the way, Puppy is really great
so I really really want it on my USB drive...
