SolydXK

It's fairly new; has anyone tried it? As the name suggests, the user has a choice of getting XFCE or KDE desktop. I tried both. This is a hot distro, flexible and configurable, with plenty of stuff that works right out of the box.
I'm a promiscuous Linux lover, but I haven't been this excited about a Linux since my first flirtation with Puppy.

Hi, dave!

Sounds interesting. Can you post an Internet link?

Thanks in advance.

I downloaded SolydX direct 32bit from here.
Out of the box setup is easier than most.

I have it on a 2GB USB and boot using isobooter
which member rcrsn51 gave us.

But I have not tried to do frugal install on NTFS is that possible?
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

I don't think it does frugal.

Hi.

I have downloaded, burned on DVD and installed onto a 4 GB Sony USB flash drive.

Installing took about 50 minutes... :(

First boot was very slow

Desktop appears in German language :)

Offers a huge amount of applications in the repository :D

No sound when trying to play MP3 files using Exaile and VLC

No sound?

No OS!

Could you maybe test it using the very simple to use
isobooter way which is not an install but a live boot
on USB. I use a 2GB USB Flash and it works very well.
the only thing it lacks are to save changes.
You can save pictures and videos and html and txt and pdf
and such but not changes of the programs and you have to
tell it to use German keys each time and set the time right.

Should be possible to make easy script that take care of all such easy?

That way you can test what it is that made it fail to do correct graphic

Sadly I fail to find url using google. rcrsn51 should change that title
or start a new about Isobooter.

Haha here it is http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=67235

I'm Using SolydK Now

I didn't know there was a German version. Mine came in English, and it boots fast on my old Dell Optiplex GX520 with 1G RAM. I don't know whether it's worth continuing to investigate an OS that doesn't work for you -- there are plenty of good Linux distros out there -- but my experience with SolydK has been very positive.

I'm switching my preference to AntiX-13.

I have sound on SolydX, but can't get it synched between
the regular volume control and Vlc or Mplayer when playing
video files. Either too loud or too soft wierdness.

Doing live boots from usb may take a minute or so with
most Linux.
AntiX does it in less than 30 seconds; same as my Wary
full install. Amazing!
