How to install Puppy in Toshiba laptop with no CD drive?

#1 Post by Gololf »

Hi all...I am soooo lost...lol

I am trying to learn Linux lanuage and programing and want to install a version of it on my toshiba A305-S6837 laptop.

The cd drive is not working but I do have a Passport 1TB drive (usb) and a pendrive I created with Puppy version is: Linux puppypc 2.6.21.7 #1 set aug 30 18:33:20 GMT-8 2008 GNU/Linux

If there is a better version...let me know please.

The HD seems to be ok...no errors on diag. Video is good.

2 things I want to do and can't seem to get a hang on it:

Reformat the HD and install Puppy on it to boot and
Get the 2wire919 to be recognised and get me online to the wireless.

Hope you can help!

Regards,
Gololf

You need to state exactly what your problem is.

1. How did you install Puppy on the pen drive?

2. Have you read the special instructions about pen drives here?

3. At what point does the install procedure fail?

Hi, thanks for the responce.

I have been working with the Linux forum...they reccomended I come here to get more help.

I made a thum drive boot for Puppy and it works fine.
Then...when I tried to get it to recognize my 2wire919 wireless...no go.

So...I will need help doing this....step by step as I am totally a newbie at linux.

Second...I want to install and replace windows Vista on the hard drive with a Linux system, as it seems to run a lot better than vista already!

Hope yuou can help,

I went to http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ and installed the Linux puppy to a pendrive......it booted up fine....but after that...I am lost to get it to reformat the HD and load puppy there or get the wireless to be recognized.

Here is the link to my discussions in the other forum http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/coffee ... ewbie.html

I hope this can help...not sure where to go from here...reading up as fast as I can.

Thanks,

Gololf
