I will have patience, although I am not a doctor.

(In English, "patients" and "patience" sound almost identical. Hence the joke.)

A doctor ( I mean physician here) with patience is usually good with patients. It could be that the resemblance has the reason.

Sorry to disappoint, pemasu, it's nothing more than good fun with homonyms :P

Hey, jejy69, you planning on coming back here? You've not posted since the quoted text above, from what I can tell... hope you're OK.

Hi Starhawk,

I've just sent Jejy a pvt. msg. and if I don't hear back from him in a couple of days then I'll email him to see if he's alright. While he's been away from the forum before for days-to-weeks at a time ( after all he's both a student, a teacher, plus he works at another job which I fail to recall ATM ) he has always returned. However, there's just "something" about this particular "vacation" that doesn't quite feel "right" to me. So I hope he's well.

I do seem to recall him having written in another post/thread somewhere on the forum that his "computer had been acting strangely". Perhaps it may have died on him and hence the silence this time around? The same happened to me back last autumn taking me offline for around four months. If this is the same for him then it'll take him some time to procure another unit.

I hope this info has helped somewhat?

Cheers/Amicalement,

Thank you for helping, Eyes-Only! Quite honestly if I had a way to get it to him, I'd give him my spare laptop (a Thinkpad T42 with T41 screen)! I do want this SFS rather badly... ;)

I really hope he's OK (and his computer as well).

Guess it's not just America where you have to work 3 jobs to get by...

Upgraded to Upup Raring 387. GNOME2 *almost* works.

Hopefully someone here will see this and be able to help, if jejy69 is unable to assist.

The problem is with GMBUS, whatever that is.

Code: Select all

[ 1080.433317] [drm] GMBUS timed out, falling back to bit banging on pin 0 [gma500 gmbus disabled]
That appears over and over and over in dmesg. The numbers at the start change (I assume it's a timestamp of some sort) but the rest is the same.

Help...?!

Hello StarHwak.

1 month... Yes, sorry. :?
I don't know for this issue. I tried to compile from source Gnome 2.32 with Upup but without success. 2.32 is for ancient distro like 5.3 series. Too many deprecated error.
Unfortunaly Gnome 3.x is really ( but really ) horrible, too many packages ! At least 200 packages, to update, compile etc... I done it one time, but I do not have the courage yet.
The best solution is mate desktop, It's the gnome 2 desktop updated. It's possible to get it working with Upup. Could you send me links about Upup Raring & Upup devx please ? :)

I will not abandon you! :)

jejy69, it's WONDERFUL to hear from you! :D :D :D Also, my birthday is tomorrow, so this is a sort of early present for me

You can find Upup Raring 387 here --> http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=85244
Download here (both iso and devx) --> http://www.smokey01.com/pemasu/UpupRari ... Raring387/

I wonder if the error I was getting with GNOME2.32 had to do with my hardware...? Poulsbo graphics may not support GMBUS (whatever that is)... I don't know

I will gladly try MATE instead. Lead on, monsieur!
