Microphone amplification (SOLVED)

#1 Post by ntg255 »

My microphone records, and it works, but the sound is soooo soft. :( Looking for a way to increase mic capture volume.

Any way I could do that?

Open a terminal, type: alsamixer and check your levels.. there should be room to go up.

Eh... problem is that there is no more space to go up.
Retrovol and alsamixer say that capture, along with everthing else, is 100%. :?

Did you play around with the mic boost in alsamixer? Also you might try using the Line In jack instead of the mic jack in your computer. In alsamixer, you can use the Tab key to go to the Capture settings.

Yep- good'ol mic boost. Is Skype installed? What kind of output does 'amixer' return?

Tried mic boost -> A bit louder. Can hear my voice when I talk loudly. Making progress. :)
Line in jack -> Not much difference. :|
amixer -> I know this is off topic, but how do you copy paste from rxvt?

This works for me: hold down the left mouse button and highlight the text you want to copy from rxvt. Don't do anything else, just highlight the text. Now, move the cursor to the forum compose window and press both the left and right mouse buttons at the same time.

@Flash Thanks.

Erm... sorry guys... It seems that my mic was defective, not my computer or recording software.
I tried a spare mic and it worked, although with static.
My bad. :oops:
