Synopsis: Jarte 5.0 will run on WINE 1.4.1
My word-processor of choice on my Windows machines is Jarte, a free Windows program that is basically MS Wordpad on steroids.
This is a very nice, lightweight alternative to MS Word. See the Jarte web site at http://www.jarte.com for all the details.
In my admittedly limited testing, Jarte seems to run quite well on WINE.
I'm running Precise Puppy 5.4.93. I used green_dome's PET for WINE 1.4.1,
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=53675
and the Windows installer for Jarte 5.0, which is the latest version. The only "tweaking" needed to get Jarte running was to add 3 DLLs to WINE's system32 folder; the DLLs are
msfedit.dll
msls31.dll
riched20.dll
which I copied out of the System32 folder on my WinXP machine.
So far the only bug I have found with Jarte on WINE on Puppy is that the "document counts" (lines, words, chars) display does not work. I have not tested printing or ".docx" support, since I have no need for those.
Jarte on WINE - A Possible Alternative to AbiWord
I just found this. It's supposed to work on any operating system.
...And it's very lightweight.

Actually...forget it. I should have tried downloading first.
The download is broken.

Re: DLL
I don't know. As far as I know, there is just one version of Jarte, which runs on on XP through Win8, and either 32 or 64 bit machines. So presumably the DLLs from any of those versions of Windows would work.zippytex wrote:Does it matter what version of windows the DLL's come from?
Thanks.
Perhaps this is really a question about WINE itself (Does WINE only work with DLLs from certain versions of Windows? Can you mix DLLs from different versions of Windows? etc), so you might post an inquiry over here where the WINE experts hang out:
