R-S-H, --volume=x can be bumped beyond a hundred. In Nooby's case- 300 to 400 should suffice.

This below in the desktop file:
Code:
Exec=timidity -igt --volume=400 --drum-power=100

Ah, ok. Thanks.

I did not see such information since the --help command is talking about to use percentage for volume and drum power settings - so, I thought 100% is maximum, logically. Laughing

Btw.: the -igt command did not work here on the .pet posted above. It is default in my SFS and shows the GUI.

Ah, I was using Laughing reverse logic. Wink

As for -igt.. you may not be running 528.

==

Furthermore, I'd like to explore the option mcewanw introduced..

Yes, I do!

LazY Puppy is based on Lucid Puppy 528-004.

At first I thought it could be increased up to 127 since the midi numbers and parameters usually do go from 0 to 127. But then I read the percentage hint - maybe they do use 1000er steps for 100%?

Ok.

Noobie, this is for you.

I have found a solution to use a config file to start timidity with the wanted volume. Just need to write a timidity-wrapper and to rebuild the SFS. When done, I will upload a new timidity SFS.

When you already have timidity installed on your system you can use xhippo audio/video player to control the midi playing (stop, start, pause etc):

Currently, /usr/local/etc/xhippo.config has the following entry it uses to recognise midi file extension and play with timidity. You could modify that to contain extra parameters as and when required. If you post the best parameters to use I'll upload the change in the next dotpet release for xhippo:

Code:

type:mid:timidity

RSH much appreciated I will check it out when you have uploaded it then.

RSH what Semme told us worked for me so no need for a new sfs
unless you feel for to have it that way in your repos.

Semme this run code made a decent volume for me?

timidity -igt --volume=400 --drum-power=100

So much appreciated that you suggested it to me.
So now I only lack the ability to change from Piano
to Violin or Sax. Smile Guys I am a lucky man now.
You should see the happy grin on my face.

Hi nooby.

If you can live with solution by Semme, it would be nice. I was not successful with the timidity_wrapper. The volume was successfully transmitted, but somehow the script loses the transmitted file, so timidity started without to load and play a file, when clicking a .mid file. Can't find any solution.

Maybe I'll give it a try (much) later again...

RSH that is totally okay. I can live with the solution
that Semme gave us.

What would be very nice would be to be able to
chose another default instrument. To hear a piano
play all the violin pars sounds odd to me Smile

I think with Freepats you can then change the bank. How this all works I'm not yet sure..
