I made one too, the only problem it had as far as I could tell was that the Nvidia and ATI drivers for the wary kernel I used would not work, X crashed, no desktop, had to use basic drivers, no opengl... partsman has solved this one though, so i may have another go soon.. any specific tips or causes of this are welcome! .. Techno, did you rebuild as sfs4? I did, not sure if I needed to... And I presume you replaced the relevant modules stuff in /etc a well?? Maybe I missed something there...?

Sc0ttman,
What can I do to help with Akita's advancement into a newer kernel ?
And if not that then what can I do ?
I have an older rig that my daughter is using I could test on specs are :
Celeron 1.2 gigahertz processor
384 MB ram
NVidia g-force 5 128 mb graphics card
runs well on current Akita kernel
As for my personal rig :
acer aspire laptop T4400 2.2 gigahertz processor
3 gig ram
intel gm45 express chip set
I could gladly send full report if needed !
using 2.6.32.28 kernel I used zzx_upgrade_73_to_75_nokms-201101-1pet
to get xorg 7.5 and my driver loaded correctly
please let me know what I can do
Also any idea why build will not open on pkgdialog ? doesnt give an error
just blinks and nothing happens :? devx is installed !
works with 1 save file I have but not the other :?
sorry so long thanks for everything sc0ttman !

Yes, rebuilt as sfs4 from wary5. it has to be sfs4 because that is the version in the kernel.
Check out my github repositories. I may eventually get around to updating my blogspot.

I would be interested in the method you used

Hiyer sc0ttman,
sorry I've been on the quiet side - congratulations on the release of Beta 15 :)! I haven't tested it yet, but *hope* to, soon.
Actually I'm writing on one of the pets/sfs' you made for Flite text-to-speech, announced here: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 726#663726
I'm afraid I can't seem to get it working - it seems to fail to actually read the text file selected (typed in - the selection menu doesn't sustain residency (remains blank)), and when I do get a MP3 or WAV generated, it is essentially empty file. I was using Akita-beta14 for your offerings, but have have had this problem with Geoffrey and jrb's various pets/tar.gz's in dpup Wheezy and upup Precise (permasu's productions). Similar fails from repository installs via PPM in those debian/ubuntu similogues, as well as in LH64. I'm stumped. Has anyone had any luck in generating a speech file? Is the size of the original text file important?
Cheers

PS just got a post from Geoffrey regarding gtkdialog4 version (2.3), so will try that again

HELP HELP HELP!!!

Du to me being really dumb, test coding directly on the repo,
I have lost various files in the Akita repo, some of which I really wanna keep handy, but don't have local copies ...

Here are the list of**MOST** missing PETs, which I REALLY want to get a hold of and re-upload to akita repo!!!

(I've yet to track down the others that were lost!!)

...Any other packages that are found missing,
let me know and PLEASE upload a backup copy somewhere for me to get...

EDIT: Here's the actual list:

You can go to Menu->Utilities->Package creator - you can re-build pet files of any installed packages... I used it to recover vbox and some other stuff! :D

EDIT: I forgot!! ... or `pkg --pkg-repack PKGNAME` should work.... (note --pkg-repack was --build in akitas older than b15)...

Keef, tor_browser is one of the few I am still missing! xawtv (no DVB version) is another...

The only one (I know of) that I really care about is xawtv-20081014.pet.

And the only other one I know is missing is xasteroids...
... but I'm gonna include more tiny games in the next akita anyway..

I should say another MASSIVE thank you to you, ally, Keef and others - I saw
again how important all the contributions have been on this forum,
and how many great little apps have been made just for puppy!

EDIT:

Apparently, these are missing (doesn't include sfs files):

tmux

#957 Post by Keef »

I've got a tmux 1.7 pet. Not sure if it is an Akita one or not though.
Looked at the petspecs, and it says

Code: Select all

awesome-2.3.6|awesome|2.3.6||BuildingBlock|448K|pet_packages-4|awesome-2.3.6.pet|+imlib2|Windowmanager|puppy|4|official|
... which may or may not be a clue.

Anyway, here it is:
