No audio from YouTube.

Dragging the mp3 on to the Play icon on the desktop works fine.

BTW: The power-up waves sound works.

PostPosted: Mon 22 Jul 2013, 22:22    Post_subject: New Flash, JavaRE, T-bird Pets

I've uploaded the following today:

Pets
Flash-11.2.202.297-x86_64.pet - Latest Adobe Flash browser plugin

OpenJRE-7u40-IcedTea-x86_64-2.pet - OpenJavaRE-7u40_b31 + IcedTea-Web-1.4 + rhino-1_7R3

Thunderbird-17.0.7-x86_64-1.pet - Mail & news client from mozilla.org

SFS
All above plus bug-fixed CompizFusion-0.8.8-x86_64-4.sfs:
http://www.lhpup.org/sfs/602-x86_64/?C=M;O=D

The previous C-F was not working when the KDE or the Devx SFS were loaded due to a version conflict with Python. Note: Compiz-Fusion may not work with some display drivers. More info here: http://www.lhpup.org/c-f.htm

For more information about OpenJRE-7u40-IcedTea-x86_64-2, see Eric Hameleers blog post:

I downloaded this after looking at the linked site but still am not sure if I have a need for it.

Is this intended for those doing some unusual networking and development?

In essence it provides the Open Sourced version of Java to your system. This support apps which require Java. Java apps have existed for many years and typically, they will run on ANY system with Java; namely Macs/Windows/Linux as well as tablets and phones. This is an environmental subsystem much like Bash, per sec.

Community members have contributed apps that work, here.

Any chance that Zigbert's latest contributions can be adapted to Lighthouse. Current problems are the base-level requirements are not met, thus this limits PBurn/PMusic additions.

Just a thought.

LH has always had a very good Update desktop service. And, when opened, it has a get_update item.

Is that item capable of bringing your latest PETs into the Update Tree? (I just tried and did not see them there after both using the item and reloading Update.)

I'm trying to listen to the streaming sound from this site but neither pmusic (which isn't working at all) or xine (which has been working) seems to be able to handle the .pls format.

http://www.logoncafe.net/web-cam.php

Also, I was experimenting with setting this to the tiny window in the vertical information bar and seem to have broken that app - I cut & pasted the address of the window.

The stacked blocks of data appear but are completely unresponsive.

Is there a simple way to reset it to defaults, please?

NOTE: I rebooted twice then was manually entering a URL into Firefox and two gKrell windows popped up then the info bar app reset itself.

It seems to only handle very limited file types.

It would be nice to be able to have streaming video there - but at least a site that sends frequently updated jpegs is helpful.

It would also be nice to be able to click, or right-click, on that window and get a browser window on the site.

This just popped up for Firefox.

Should I check most everything to update here or what, please?

I usually manually and selectively update things on the fly.

Thanks!

Hi tazoc,

The recent update of Bibletime 2.9.2 has fixed numerous bugs. Please consider an update package to Bibletime 2.9.2 for Lighthouse.

Thanks,
Jim

I posted a mini-rant about bible.org there that probably was better shared here ...

Hi @Edoc

That pop-up is your desktop"s Update icon. Seems like, maybe, you could have somehow clicked it at the top of your screen somehow. (I myself have clicked things accidentally outside of the "focus" window, too)

Looks like you are running Basic Lighthouse602 versus the Mariner edition (both work, just trying to note which you are using. I have never used Basic thus far.). Is that correct?

Others who use multimedia and the web are better able to answer those questions. I have not been able to recreate the sound problem you are having.

I want to ask if you could burn and boot the Mariner ISO. Test it on your PC and see if you have similar issues with sound. Thus far, I have not been able to create this on a non-UEFI laptop. And since my only attempt at booting a UEFI laptop, FATDOG nor LH64 would not -allow desktop display, no matter which driver was loaded.

Maybe on a different framework, I might have better success and can mimic your layout.

But, try the Mariner DVD method. You should NOT have any problem booting because your PC is already registered (UEFI) for DVD use. Allow the DVD to load all of the SFSs when asked (if you do nothing for 5 seconds, if will load automatically). Curious to your multimedia findings and what you can report in DVD's use.

P.S. Please note, that at this time, I am NOT suggesting you install Mariner. Just wondering if you can test for results.

So does what you see indicate what has been updated or what needs to be?

I thought I had just updated JRE and Flash via the posted PET's here - I have not yet tested SKYPE, don't use Chrome, and LibreOffice is v 4.0 so not sure what they are referencing re. v 0.28.

I'll try to burn a Mariner version DVD and test a little later.

Mariner had some defaults I didn't need so I went with Basic.

Yes, you are right. Mariner intends to be for those who would want a fuller experience. (in my own view, Mariner is an OOTB Windows Replacement equal in stature to any Office's deployment. And, my view also found Mariner to be equivalent to Apple/MS's multimedia OS versions with all of the multimedia integration in its OOTB approach.

Remember: I am NOT suggesting you adopt. I'm curious that maybe your issues with sound and desktop integration may disappear while testing it via the Live DVD on your UEFI PC. Then, development can narrow to the cuprit missing that would correct a Basic LH64 experience. If you run Mariner from DVD and do not have the problems you're seeing on Basic, it provides some clarity to focus in on.

Post when you can.

That utility shows that you have 2 of its tested subsystems installed on your PC at the time its run. The top line shows the total number the utility supports and the number current found on system. The utility is NOT a PPM.

I think, in the beginning, TaZoC had plans to "maybe" use it as a update service for needed/vital/support fixes and PETs for the system. The PPM is heavily Slackware oriented while this utility is heavily slanted to LH64.

Again, this is NOT an official interpretation. Just a view.
