I want to tether one of these by wifi as a gateway. Any reasonable chance of it working into Puppy Slacko 5.4 ->? I'm unwilling to buy before I know it works. Pls advise which driver. They are Android 2.2

" Connectivity

The device supports 3G/HSDPA 7.2Mbps and Wi-Fi b/g/n for
Internet connectivity.

A special 3G data offer is coming with the pack.

Users can avail either 1GB data for 3 months from Aircel or 500MB data
for 1 month from Airtel.

Local file transfer is made possible through Bluetooth v2.1 and
MicroUSB 2.0 (HiSpeed).

WiFi and USB tethering is possible
which means you can enjoy Internet connectivity on your laptops
by connecting it to your Y100.

For navigation assistance, it is coming with GPS/AGPS /Compass. "

This is what I do for a Huawei IDEOS.

How to tether Huawei IDEOS X3 phone to laptop?

usb cable conection works fine, but I'd rather not use it. I want wifi tethering

My big problem is the lack of support or diffinitive listings for wpa-psk usb wifi devices, or for my internal intel 5100 device. They often have support for it in XP, but not puppy. Since the phone only supports open and wpa-psk connection types, it's impossible to safely use the wifi in a densely populated university precinct.

Please, what device are you using on your pc to obtain connection, [is it internal] and what driver are you using? I can cable tether, and I can wifi tether, but not with wpa-psk encryption. My pc's internal/ USB TxRx harware supports it, but my software does not give me that option in puppy slacko-5.5-4g. My software is not adequate, and I know not how to fix it.

You should list your provider >> ISP.

Some don't allow tethering.

Or you may have to email them to add tethering.

Here in OZ with my provider >> TPG

http://www.tpg.com.au/

you log into a control panel on their site to
add and remove certain features.

I have Premium calls and overseas calls >> turned off etc.

::::::::

If you are tethered and setup to go Frisbee just sees you
as a Wifi and connects you...job done.

" Pls advise which driver. "...none needed.

Check your provider.

::::::

I can cable tether, and I can wifi tether,

but not with wpa-psk encryption. ...works for me mate.
Use Frisbee.....Hello ...Hello....anyone listening.

IN PUPPYLAND NO-ONE can hear you SCREAMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

" My pc's internal/ USB TxRx harware supports it, but my software does not give me that option in puppy slacko-5.5-4g. "

::::::::

as my post clearly states....

>> Add the security level
>> Select WPA2 PSK
>> and provide a password....
The more number/letters the better.

And that's why you use >>>> FRISBEE

I asked you what your hardware was, on your pc, to recieve wifi.

pls answer the question.

this hardware also needs a driver

I would like to know which one you are using.

When buying USB wifi, they may claim linux compatiblity, but never advertise it's encryption availablities. So I need to know what you have/use so I can use it too.

My provider is ok with tethering, I have had my account set for it. [Amaysim>Optus 3G-$39.90/30days "unlimited" free local, national, mob, 13, 1800 calls, 4GB data, no contract-month by month. $ for directory assist?

It is a software problem, AFAIK, that the linux drivers do not include the WPA-PSK capacity for the hardware I have.

Obviously, if you're getting WPA-PSK, then if I use your PC hardware & driver, I will get it too.

I was using Frizbee for the wifi connection.

My present software [puppy slacko-5.5-4g] only allows open or WEP encryption on my PC hardware, but my phone only allows open or WPA-PSK, This leaves me with a wifi connection which is unsecured, or cable-which I do not want..

My PC hardware, in Win XPsp3, supports WPA-PSK, so I must conclude the linux drivers are inadequate. I have requested they be updated.

"unlimited" = upto 3x average network user usage.

mate I take it that you are in OZ.

" My PC hardware"

Why don't you list it.

If your laptop or desktop has wireless...
some desktops did in their motherboard...

and you can boot in Puppy....see your wireless card.

and logon to the net with frisbee....that is it.

Call your phone anything else that you like
and it will show up if you have correctly enabled it.

Boot Windows...if it sees the phone

reboot and as long as your hardware is enabled in Puppy
it's the same deal.

No drivers or anything else.

My last say on the matter.

And as greengeek stated in my post...
"his name shouldn't be dependent on the model -
you can change it to whatever makes it meaningful for you (eg: Chris_Android_AccessPoint) "
Chris.

Setup>net>network setup

displays connections USB & WLAN, listing connection, driver and device name/.

In my case

usb0 rndis host Ethernet USB: Huawei Incorporated handset.....

WLAN0 wireless iwlwifi IntelWiFi Link 5100

Please tell me what you have on this window.

iwlwifi does NOT provide WPA-PSK support for the WLAN0 device.

I would like to know what device you are using for wifi on your PC, and what driver you are using so I can try and get one to get WPA-PSK support for myself on my PC. Please answer the question asked. Do not presume I need to know anything different at this stage.

I understand what you are saying, but your answer does not solve the original problem--the lack of support for the desired encryption for my hardware. I know how to set it up, I don't get the encryption options I need because they are disallowed. IE NOT SUPPORTED. I do, however have that support for this device in XP

Mate >> Puppy Slacko 5.4 >> has Frisbee,

Look under Internet or Network.

It is an unactivated pet.

Hit it...wait for up to 45 seconds....for it to enable.

Hit connect again >>> Frisbee is there in the list.

Use that to connect.

CHRIS!!!!!!!!!!!
How many more times do I have to ask for 2 simple things?????????

I know it has Frizbee, and I know how Frizbee works!

Please understand that the option in Frizbee for WPA-PSK is NOT available on my hardware. If pre-selected, on the next step it greys' out, and is NOT SUPPORTED. WHY don't you believe I know enough of what I'm talking about, and what I think I need to know? I cannot use the encryption with my existing internal Intel wifi 5100 device. For some reason I don't know, you are not understanding me. Slow down, and stop trying to think for me, rather, think with me......

PLEASE UNDERSTAND what I'm asking!

I want to know what WiFi device you are using, and it's driver, so I can get a USB version, if one is available, and have the WPA-PSK encryption.

The device information is found by selecting the following chain of icons from the desktop:

Setup>net>Internet setup

The displayed window tells you what internet connections, drivers and devices are in your machine. Please tell me what is in this window.

wlan(x) is what I'm interested in, (x) being your relevant connection. I need all the information on that line,

BTW: Pls confirm by continuing through the menu that WPA-PSK is available on your device, otherwise we are both wasting our efforts.

hopefully,
thanks.
Drak

P.S. This has really been like pulling teeth! I feel unhappy that I have to justify my request so heavily, when a simple early compliance on your part would have resolved the matter without aggro.

P.S.#2 Sorry, perhaps you're a noob too, and didn't know how to get me the info?
