TestDisk-6.14

#1 Post by watchdog »

Just curious I have compiled TestDisk-6.14 in slacko 5.5. I have tested PhotoRec and it works here. Just run "photorec" in console. Testing appreciated.

Hi, watchdog.

I appreciate the offer and you taking the time to compile it for Puppy,
but doesn't TestDisk already have a ready-made Linux version on its
download site?

My 2¢. Best regards.

I tested it and it does not work in slacko 5.5. So I compiled it.

No menu entry ! how do you launch TestDisk ?
testdisk: error while loading shared libraries: libntfs-3g.so.83: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I was just trying your pet. I would like testing my vattery.

It's an application which runs totally in terminal. So I did not add a desktop file. Run it in console by:

Code: Select all

photorec
or

Code: Select all

testdisk
testdisk: error while loading shared libraries: libntfs-3g.so.83: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
Probably you are running an old puppy. I compiled it in slacko 5.5. If you are running an old puppy I suggest to you to copy from a puppy_wary_5.5.sfs /lib/libntfs-3g.so.79.0.0 and symlink to it /lib/libntfs-3g.so.83. In puppy_slacko_5.5.sfs there is /lib/libntfs-3g.so.83.0.0 and /lib/libntfs-3g.so.83 as a symlink to the first. If you are in slacko see if a symlink solve your problem. Look at /lib dir for libntfs-3g.so. I hope this helps.

@pelo

In this case, it needs to be a command line program. I think there is no other way, to keep the use of computer resources at a minimum.

watchdog,

I d/l-ed this .pet pack though it said it didn't have a menu entry. Then I clicked on it, it didn't start the app in my Slacko 5.7.2 CE ...
What could the problem be?

I have a frugal install of slacko 5.7.1. I have installed this old pet slacko 5.5 related in it. I open a console and typed:

Code: Select all

photorec
It started flawlessly and as I can remember it can be managed by console but no more testing and usage I have done of it. Open a console in slacko 5.7.2 after installing the pet and type:

Code: Select all

photorec
What is the response of the console?

I downloaded the newest beta version 7.2 (Nov.3, 2019) from the TestDisk website
Don't know about slacko 5.5 but in slacko 5.6 I haven't noticed any problems. Maybe you should give it another try.
