wrong video settings and no mouse after hd install

#1 Post by mclien »

Hi,

I'm installing my sons computer. Everything is fine with the live cd (2.0-opera), but when I'm installing to /dev/hda3 and GRUB in the mbr I get a 640x480 res and no mouse working (which was 1280x1014 and a working usb scrollwheel mouse).

Trying the same with 210-seamonkey gives me the hight res. and no mouse from the live cd.

any hints?

exit X and type
xorgwizard
to set up your graficscard and mouse.

I think this is a general problem with many remastered CDs, that they run Xvesa or no X at all at first start.

Erro: can't open Display :0
dc: stuck underflow
and xvesa falls back to command line....

(all from the hd installed puppy)

please type this command:
ls -l /usr/X11R6/bin/X*

It should report:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 4 Aug 27 15:36 /usr/X11R6/bin/X -> Xorg
-rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 1628704 Aug 8 05:41 /usr/X11R6/bin/Xorg
-rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 1168484 Jul 3 2005 /usr/X11R6/bin/Xvesa
If you get the same result, your xorg.conf might be broken.

You could try this:
from the working system (liveCD), save the file:
/etc/X11/xorg.conf
Save it to /etc/X11/xorg.conf of your harddisk-installation.

This file should be created by xorgwizard, if this wizard is broken on the harddisk-installation, we simply use the result of the working wizard.

used the recommente method, but didn't helped (the xorg.conf file already exists anyway).
I now use 1.0.8r1, which runs fine with xvesa (selecting the xorgwizard made the computer boot instandly).
Are there any known issus with matrox mystique cards?

I have two computers which use the onboard Matrox MGA G100 AGP, both HP Vectras from around 2000-2001 (think mine were built around Christmas 2000).

Both run perfectly as Live CD, with and without persistent save file, but haven't installed to either machine.

Dunno if that helps you at all.

I could try installing if/when I get some time, if that would be useful for you.
