How do I enable Icons in Fluxbox menu? (Solved)

#1 Post by Bancobusto »

Hi everyone - I was wondering what I'm doing wrong.

In my /.fluxbox/menu file, I have customiezed things quite a bit. I really like Fluxbox.

Now, in Debian or Vector, I would write something like this if I wanted an entry called "home";

[exec] (Home) {rox /root/mike} </root/.fluxbox/pixmaps/folder_home.png>

There would be a little icon beside my "home" entry.

Alas, it's just not working with the Pupster. The entry is showing up, and Rox is opening in the correct directory, but alas, no cute little icon. Yes, there is an icon with that name in that directory, and the spelling is correct. Anyone have any ideas what I can do? It's not the most important thing in the world, but when running Fluxbox every little bit of eye-candy helps, you know?

Puppy Rocks! :D

Thanks, will do.

Do you know an easy way to convert .png's to .xpm's if that works?

(never an end to the tinkering)

I figured it out.

It's amazing what fiddling around will do. I installed the pup-get version of GIMP, after trying to save it as an xpm in a couple of the vector editing/graphics programs included on the live-cd, and that's that, problem solved.

Thanks for your help, G2

I find (this is a personal approach) that fiddling works better for me than addressing help files and focussing on a specific problem. Quite oten a solution to another problem will arise in its own time.

It is one of the reasons I use the stumbleupon plug in for Mozilla

Welcome to the kennels. Nice avatar and as you are a Canadian, you might have heard this US encounter which offers us some insight into the Puppy approach:

This is the transcript of a radio conversation of a US naval ship with Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October, 1995. Radio conversation released by the Chief of Naval Operations 10-10-95.

Canadians: Recommend you divert YOUR course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision.
        *

Americans: This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.

Canadians: No. I say again, you divert YOUR course.

We are accompanied by three destroyers, three cruisers and numerous support vessels. I demand that YOU change your course 15 degrees north, that's one five degrees north, or countermeasures will be undertaken to ensure the safety of this ship.
