Install hp 1000 solved
I got the hp 1000 to work using hp dj f4200 driver!
Do I need to install the hplip file if its printing with the f4200 driver?rcrsn51 wrote:The foo2zjs-i486.pet.is for a Laserjet 1000, not a Deskjet 1000.
Is your printer a Deskjet 1000 j110 Series? The lastest hplip_print-3.13.9.pet supports it.
Read How to Install Your Printer/Scanner in Puppy at the top of this section.
It is a dj1000 j110
I am now trying to get my ubuntu laptop wireless to print to hp 100 wired to pupply on tower computer. I set firewall trusted network to 192.168.2.0/24
Ubuntu finds the printer with printer config and gives A URI IPP:ETC.
but it never ask or let me choose a driver . It wont print a test page.
/tmp and /dev/null on puppy are write enabled.
what am I missing here?
Use whatever driver works. But where did you find your f4200 driver?jpmcbooks wrote:Do I need to install the hplip file if its printing with the f4200 driver?
Since Ubuntu is finding the printer, it sounds like you correctly declared it as a shared printer in Puppy.I am now trying to get my ubuntu laptop wireless to print to hp 100 wired to pupply on tower computer. Have you tried to print from an application like a word processor?
hp 1000 printer
the hp dj f4200 was listed in the puppy printer install drivers . I found out about it in a previous post by someone.
I created a test page document. No print.
when I install the ptr on ubuntu should'nt ask for a driver?
when I look at printer in cups web admin it says
Remote Printer Idle - "Directory "/usr/lib/cups/backend" has insecure permissions (040755/uid=1000/gid=1000)."

Ubuntu has detected your Puppy printer using the IPP protocol. It used to be that IPP sent the print job to the remote printer and let it do the formatting. So only the remote computer needed the driver.
But it doesn't seem to work that way anymore. See the discussion here about setting up a Linux client (at the bottom of the main post).
I don't know how you do this in Ubuntu.

I got this error in cups. I did google on it and I entered at puppy
chown root.root /usr/lib/cups/backend
then restart computer
It then printed a test page.
It won't print a text document????

I ran the following test.
1. I installed Slacko Puppy 5.6 on a machine.
2. I connected an HP Deskjet F4280
3. I installed it as a shared printer. (There are two steps for this)
4. I installed Ubuntu 10.10 on another machine.
5. I ran the Ubuntu printer wizard: System>Administration>Printing. Ubuntu could NOT auto-detect the Puppy printer.
6. So I manually added it using Internet Printing Protocol. (I also got it to work using Find Networked Printers and the Puppy IP address)
7. I used the IP address of the Puppy machine and the CUPS name of the printer.
8. Ubuntu identified the printer (the Verify button) and installed it.
9. Sometimes the above procedure did not select a driver. From the main printer screen, I picked my new printer.
10. Under Make and Model, I clicked Change. That let me select a driver.
11. I printed a test page. It worked. I printed from an app. It worked.
12. I never saw any errors about permissions.

It is printing a test page from cups web admin on ubuntu but no test page from ubunto printer config.
It wont print anything else. doc or email etc

In Puppy, this folder is always owned by root:root. I don't know how your version came to be owned by 1000:1000. If your Puppy setup is that badly messed up, you should consider a fresh install.Remote Printer Idle - "Directory "/usr/lib/cups/backend" has insecure permissions (040755/uid=1000/gid=1000)."
You haven't said what Ubuntu version you are using. But in 10.10, I pulled down the System menu to get Administration > Printing. Then I followed the steps to add a network printer.
[Edit] The problem with installing a networked printer using IPP is that it uses the host computer's IP address, which may change. Another way to host the printer is through a Samba server. Then the printer is permanently identified on the network by its name.
As a test I installed Samba-TNG in the above setup. I made the one change to the smb.conf for CUPS 1.4 and started the server. In Ubuntu, I added the printer using Windows Printer via Samba. This also worked fine.
[Edit] As another test, I started the p910nd server on Puppy. In Ubuntu, I added it using Find Networked Printers. It asked for a printer driver and installed correctly.
Install hp 1000 ptr
So installing the printer on ubuntu using its own printer config gui is in effect installing manual using ipp?
I am using ver 12.04 ubuntu.
I am using ver 12.04 ubuntu.
1. I installed Ubuntu 12.04
2. I clicked on the System Settings Icon > Printing > Add.
3. I selected Find Network Printer.
4. I entered the Puppy IP address and clicked Find.
5. Ubuntu detected the Puppy shared printer.
6. It added the printer but did NOT select a driver.
7. I ran Make and Model > Change and chose the driver.
8. I printed a test page and a page from LibreOffice. It all worked.

You would have to ask an Ubuntu developer. I am just installing the printer the way that Ubuntu wants you to.So installing the printer on ubuntu using its own printer config gui is in effect installing manual using ipp?
Install hp dj 1000
I will try that make and model and change thing when I get home this evening.
Thanks for all your help!
Thanks for all your help!
Install remote hp dj 1000 j110
I did the make and model change to load the driver . but no print . Tried delete ptr and reinstall =no print.
Deleted hpllip ver 12.2 and installed hplip-3.13.10.run then reinstall ptr= no print.
I got another laptop with Centos 6 and it prints to hp 1000 perfect .
It must be with the Ubuntu s/w.
I guess I will image it with clonezilla and try a reinstall of ubuntu 12.04

I did a fresh install of ubuntu 12.04 and all current updates. It works. It is printing everything,rcrsn51 wrote:Because you tried to install the printer in Ubuntu through the CUPS web interface, it's hard to know what's gone wrong. Like I said, installing through the Ubuntu print manager worked correctly for me in both 10.10 and 12.04.
You may need a clean Ubuntu setup to confirm this.
test page, libre document, email etc.
I have to decide whether I just keep this install or goto ubuntu forms and see if there is something I can remove and reload to fix my original install with all my stuff.
Thank you for all your help ,you are truly a big asset to this forum!
