Hi!

Could you recommend me a video editor for Puppy precise 5.7.1? - Which one is the most similar to Windows movie maker -

I tried kdnelive, lombard, and I don't know what else, but neither of them worked (??). I tried kino and cinelerra as well, but I could not use them. I just want to make an mp3 file (by adding it to a black backgruond) availiable for uploading to youtube.

Thank you.

PeasyDisc has a basic slideshow builder that will do what you want. (There is also a tool for making a black background JPEG]. Just create a one-image slideshow using your MP3 as the audio track. You will need to figure out how long the MP3 is and use that time in the slideshow builder.

However the slideshow output file SLIDESHOW.VOB is identified as mpeg2, which may not be compatible with Youtube. In which case, you could convert it with a command like
Code:
ffmpeg -i SLIDESHOW.VOB youtube.avi

This gets you an mpeg4 video.

You will probably want to scale down the video frame to something smaller.

Code:
ffmpeg -i SLIDESHOW.VOB -vf scale=320:240 youtube.avi

I have verified that this procedure works with Youtube.

avidemux is a neat gui simple editor converter... it can import an image for video which should suit your case. You should have not trouble finding a working package for puppy...most of the other editors are big and hairy and probably overkill for the job.

For you tube format is sort of irrelevent as they convert it anyway but in theory the one that flash uses is mp4/h264/aac (there is a google format and the original flv but I advise avoiding either) ...whether making it to that spec means they wont reconvert it I am not sure (blip.tv would keep it as is and now I use dropbox to stream to our tv player)

If I understand you, all you want to do is adding some steady image to a sound file so it works as a 'video' for Youtube. I haven't tried it myself, but I found a tutorial that claims to do that with a simple command:

http://www.nilsgey.de/Blog/36_How_to_make_a_video_from_a_picture_and_a_music_file_for_youtube

It uses the ffmpeg command, mentioned above by rcrsn51. In my Puppy 4.3.1. such command is installed, I don't know if it is part of the basic applications all puppies have or you'll need to install some pet file first.

Hi,
sorry for late answer, but I couldn't do that. I was sufferring with PeasyDisc 40 minutes, but I couldn't create any video. I would need much more time to learn this program, how it works. Editors with timelines are much logical for me. I have already done this job in Windows Movie Maker many times, but this PeasyDisc is a little bit strange for me.
I also tried Avidemux, but I couldn't load the mp3 file either...
- Converting video files is not problem for me. -
So this time, I will do it in Movie Maker, but I will also be sufferring with them yet, and I will report back later what happened.
Thanks for helping.

First open your image file to create a new video.
Then go to the menu...
audio...
select main track.....
then you can choose your mp3 audio source

After that you select your final video format/codecs and save your new video.

If a video is not opened/started then audio selection won't open...I guess thats what happened.

What happens if you just upload the mp3 file to YouTube by itself?

Unfortunately, it is not possible. But it would be the simpliest.

rcrsn51 : I executed your instructions, but when I clicked on NEW, I got a message: "You must install the Extras package!"

Well I must apologise for my mental blank.

We make cartoons by importing images and adding a sound track.

You are adding the sound just fine.... problem is a single image makes a single frame movie.... and the video sets the duration not the sound so the sound is truncated to the duration of one frame. I could not find a workaround for this unless by chance the version of avidemux has a filter to change the duration of the image.

you may throw tomatoes

I am awfully sorry. I was so mindless. I have many time checked the forum, but I didn't see your post. I have to check my Preferences on notification.
So, I have finally done the job! I converted the VOB file by "right click>File>ffconvert" because I am very beginner in Linux, and I don't know how I can use commands. I must learn it.

Thank you again very much!
You are the best.

I am just learning how to use Linux commands. I will check your solution as well, I just need time.
Thank you.
