Guy Dog 5.0.1
Wow, GuyDog runs much better on my old Thinkpad X24 (256M RAM) than the Lupu 5.1 I had been using, even with GuyDog's better features (Openbox, tint2, wbar). I used to have to scale videos down and use smaller formats to get them to play smoothly, and my processor was frequently maxed out by other programs. But that's rarely the case with GuyDog and I can even play videos full screen no problem. A big thank you to Iguleder.
These are thumbnails, click to view larger. The theme is Owl Light.
Faenza icons, and I replaced the stock GTK icons with Faenza action icons. Figured out how to autohide wbar (set unfocused alpha to 0).
Also installed SpaceFM as file manager. Even sifted through the code of several applications (pmount, filemnt, edit-sfs) to replace the remnants of Rox-filer with SpaceFM. They sure don't make it easy to get rid of Rox...

I will look into this later on after figuring out how to auto start it in Icewm and Fluxbox and JWM in my AntiX installs. It works nice manually left clicking batti file in the folder and I hope
it shows up in tint2 also or maybe wbar as well.

I usually use conky but experimenting with different routes.

An alternative which I have used in LxPup13.10 (pcmanfm) is to make a new rox which simply calls pcmanfm and then make a new Rox which calls the old rox - there are then only a very few places where rox must be replaced by Rox....cimarron wrote:Even sifted through the code of several applications (pmount, filemnt, edit-sfs) to replace the remnants of Rox-filer with SpaceFM. Yeah, what I had trouble with is the places where rox options are used that SpaceFM doesn't use, like -d and -D. The -d, for opening a directory in rox, could just be removed (it is unneeded, and does something different in SpaceFM). -D in rox closes a directory (when unmounting, for example), and that was trickier. I eventually found that this would work:
That closes the tab with the unmounted directory, or closes SpaceFM completely if it had opened automatically when mounting the directory (such as plugging in a flash drive). Now everything works, and I don't need rox at all.
Which is good, since Iguleder removed it... (thanks!)
Code: Select all
#rox -D $MNTPT
pkill -f $MNTPT #kills spacefm for mounted device
Which is good, since Iguleder removed it... (thanks!)
I've noticed that GuyDog doesn't seem to load the main SFS file into ram when the "pfix=ram" option is used (and pfix=copy, ram doesn't seem to do it either). It ignores the savefiles as it should, but still seems to be running off the USB drive (or CD, or HD), which can't be unmounted. That makes for faster boots, but slower running (and the USB drive has to stay plugged in).
Is that what it's supposed to do? My previous Lupu 5.1 would load completely into ram with the pfix=ram option.

I experience the same with my SD card install (gotta leave the card in) but on dual core amd and 4 gig of ram I am not noticing any speed issues. In fact. It runs like a raped ape.
Besides, I don't need the slot for anything else as I have a pendrive sd card adapter if needing that slot.
I don't know if that is normal or not cimmaron. Since it is not a big issue for me.

Iguleder says it "must be a bug." As you say, though, it still does run pretty fast, even if not in RAM. Maybe I prefer it this way since it boots so much faster. (I think it does load into RAM when booted from CD.)
Also, because I don't remember seeing this in this thread, I had to install a fix for the Network Wizard to get it to run. The fix was offered on BK's blog just before GuyDog was released: Network Wizard bugfix. I'll attach the pet here as well:

Wow, thanks deepsea! It would be great to get those in a public repository. Maybe you could get ally to upload them to the puppy linux section at archive.org.
Here's the GuyDog page already started (but missing the sources and devx): https://archive.org/details/PuppyLinuxguydog-5.0.1

Thank you and sfs-load-on-the-fly implemented. Thank you also everyone else in this thread from the maintainer to the support folks.
On a side note. I got mlocate working. Used the package manager debian squeeze package in Utilities.
Code: Select all
sh-4.2# mlocate tint2
/etc/xdg/tint2
/etc/xdg/tint2/tint2rc
/initrd/pup_ro2/etc/xdg/tint2

/etc/cron.daily/mlocate
fromto create the database, otherwise mlocate won't work until that script is run from cron itself (since mlocate does not use the same database file as standard locate)

I have it working though I am missing these dependencies after the previous dependency install.
I am kinda bash dyslexic so any extra commands I can use. I use.file
