Need Nvidia legacy for k-3.9.11

#1 Post by dogbert0360 »

Can anyone provide a link for nvidia 304.xx for k-3.9.11? I'm using a nvidia geforce 6200 and would like to use it instead of nouveau.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi...

I see "nvidia-glx-304.51.sfs" here. Hope it helps. :)

I take it this is for Precise 5.7.1
The nvidia website is offering driver 325.15 as the latest version and suggests it might work with the GeForce 6200. Not sure about that.

Latest Legacy 304 seems to be 304.1160 (released 06th Nov 2013).
This is listed as the recommended driver for your card.
Might try to compile it but I only have a GeForce FX 5200 here
There is also 173.1438 which is recommended for my card.

One method is to load devx and kernel sources then install Shinobar's getnvidia program from here:-
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=72405
You also have to get nouveau completely out of the way, so blacklist it via boot manager and use xorgwizard to switch to vesa and reboot.

The getnvidia program is designed to download the driver from nvidia and then produce .sfs and .pet packages, but if you find it is downloading the wrong driver version you can download the required installer with your browser and save it locally and then point getnvidia to the installer file location. eg:-

Code: Select all

getnvidia /root/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-304.116.run
There are also some pre-compiled drivers (304.88 and 319.32) for k-3.9.11 by Shinobar here:-
http://shino.pos.to/party/bridge.cgi?puppy/precise/opt/

LATER:- Hopefully the 304.88 by Shinobar will work for you. I have compiled the 304.1160 and also the 325.15 and they do build as .sfs and .pet but they won't load against my FX 5200 card so I can't test them. The 173.1438 builds, loads and works all OK.

LATER STILL:- I have uploaded my builds to my Yandex Disk in case anyone wants to download and try them. See my post here:-
