Looking for a program called Dock (Solved)

#1 Post by Sky Aisling »

Many moons ago I believe CatDude put out a simple *dock* pet.
By that I mean, an app launcher that looks similar to Mac's dock.

I've no joy in searching for the .pet.

CatDude, if your are out there, am I remembering correctly?
If so, may we have that .pet again?
Remember, 'no' is a perfectly good answer.

The dock is for Precise Puppy 5.7.1.

Thanks for the memories. :)

Dock

#3 Post by Sky Aisling »

Hello Puppyluvr,
Thank you for the quick reply.

I found both wbar and cairo-dock in Puppy Package Manager.
I downloaded wbar as it appeared the least confusing to download.
(PPM search for "cairo-dock" shows a page full of puzzling downloads).

Wbar shows in my root as *wbar_1.3.3+dfsg2.files /root/.packages/wbar*.
There appears to be no executable.
Dependency that is missing for wbar is: libimlib2.so.1
Where do I find libimlib2.so.1?
PPM search of all repos says it's not in the libraries.
Perhaps I have libimlib2.so.1 spelled incorrectly?

Hi.

I have downloaded libimlib2_1.4.4-1build1_i386.deb automatically when downloading xjadeo_0.6.2-1_i386.deb from the package manager a few weeks ago.

If it is gone, I can attach it (195K). Just let me know.

Thank you, RSH

Here's what the search of this Precise-5.7.1 shows.
Did I correctly enter the file name?

Usually when searching the package manager I would just enter 'imlib'.

Just try the attached .deb and let me know if it works.

Edit:

Btw.: it is a fake .gz file.

Thank you for your patience. I am new to downloading and unzipping .gz files.

Is this helpful?

I downloaded libimlib2_1.4.4-1build1_i386.deb.gz to temp and attempted to unzip.
I saw no change anywhere.
see screenshot

I then searched PPM using 'imlib' and installed libimlib2_1.4.4.
I activated wbar through console and received the following message:
see screenshot.

I've located this reference to a *wbar* download by Iguleder with the imlib files.

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=72513

I will delete the PPM download of wbar and your imlib download and PPM download of imlib.
then
I will try Iguleder's approach and get back.

EDIT: Thank you RSH.
Iguleder's suggestion I'm sure is good.
A *wbar* GUI box did appear but ...
I'm at my end attempting to figure this one out.
I'll sleep on it and see if something comes clear in the morning.

Hi RSH,

No apologies, please. :D
I greatly appreciate the assistance.
I was hoping for a simple download.
I'm spoiled with how easy Puppy .pets usually happen.

What is a 'fake .gz file'?

Just rename it (remove the '.gz' part from its name).

One can not attach .deb files to the forum.

Yes you are mate, it was Wbar
Sky Aisling wrote:..If so, may we have that .pet again?
Remember, 'no' is a perfectly good answer.

The dock is for Precise Puppy 5.7.1.
There is a package available here:http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=90332
it was compiled in puppy precise,
and the screeny below is it running in 5.7.1 (in vbox)

That version you are messing about with (1.3.3) is quite an old one,
i would suggest you try the one in the above link.

Hope that helps

Hello, Sky Aisling.

For the record, you can create a dock bar very simply, with no download, just by
adding a few lines to your file /root/.jmwtrayrc.

I'm including mine, for you to play with, and a screenie. Just back up your own
beforehand.

Enjoy!

Note.
In the script, "<!-- Deuxième barre, en bas au milieu de l'écran -->" means
"2nd bar on the bottom at the middle of the screen".
You can put it on top at the middle if you wish, easily, just by changing the
y parameter from y="-1" to y="0". BFN.

What the pic doesn't show is that the dock bar is independent from the menu / running applications bar, depending on where you put your cursor.

Dock [SOLVED]

#17 Post by Sky Aisling »

Opps! Wbar disappears after *reboot*.
nilsonmorales offers a fix.
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 275#739275
I'm working on it now. News at 11.

EDIT:
Silly error on my part.
Check *add to startup* on first panel presented by Wbar.
Wbar now shows after *reboot*.

I love this Dock

Thanks SkyAisling for prompting this page. I've recently gone to a different laptop and had forgotten about wbar. So it was nice to know someone else had a similar problem.
Catdude, thanks again for the help you gave me some years ago, and for continuing to help us. And the link you provided is fantastic!
It's good to get back in the kennel. :D

Your welcome, bones01.
As you say concerning CatDude's contribution:
Catdude, thanks again for the help you gave me some years ago, and for continuing to help us. And the link you provided is fantastic!
CatDude deserves the thanks here. :)

I've been playing with wbar for a while now and enjoying it. So far it's proven to work perfect for me on Precise 5.7.1.
