Sub_title: Official news links

It seems, to me, that it wpuld be a help if some useful links and data aboiut Quirky could be easily found.

So I have reserved this post and the two that follow to collect selected information

I am booked for operation which will, hopefully, restore my sight of one eye and as it will be at least three weeks before I can add much of use - if any Forum member would like to adopt a similar idea - I will ask Flash to delete this thread.

Here is the link to BarryK's first post

Sub_title: Adding NIC driver for Atheros

Greetings Barry,

Love this Quirky and the way you do things dealing with Linux.

Can you please add the following line to /usr/src/linux/.config so it will build the module for the Atheros NIC driver so it will be available in the future:

CONFIG_ALX=m

Thanks for the great work,
Gerald

Love the quirky idea. Boots up lightning fast from a flash drive even the first time.

But I too need Atheros NIC support.

Got my NIC working using the following backports package.

http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/projects/backports/stable/v3.12.8/backports-3.12.8-1.tar.xz

Need the dev pet and I assume the kernel src pet to build it, but it does work now.

Still working on my Intel HD Audio through HDMI. OpenELEC makes it work somehow, but Quirky can't out of the box. I'll see what I can do and report back.

EDIT: Now working on compiling a newer kernel. Apparently the bug I'm having was fixed just after Quirky's 3.12.6 kernel in 3.13.x.

EDIT 2: I built the newest stable kernel and it tries to boot, but I'm getting an SMP related stop. Any ideas what I need to change in the compile config? I used mainly default options. Not sure what happened.

Also tried booting with a kernel from tahrpup, but that doesn't really work either. It does go farther than my own compile.

What I think needs to happen is you'd have to boot into the normal quirky, then install the xorg accelerated driver (think that is available IIRC) and then boot with the tahr kernel.

I'm just going to try quirky tahr and see if that's any better.

Tahrpup fixes all issues for me. Video works fine, and so does my NIC.

Running it as my main pup now.

Thanks Barry for the hard work on Quirky. I'd still love to use it as my main once it gets a little more up to date.
