PuppyOCR now with GUI interface

#1 Post by tronkel »

Here is a later version of puppyocr, but this time has a GUI included - in addition to the original command-line version.

Works only for images with English characters.

Get it here:
http://www.datafilehost.com/download-f83d2fa4.html

Built and tested in Puppy Lucid 529 - Three Headed Dog
Should be OK on Puppy Lucid 528 and Wary as well.

Based on Tesseract version 2.04

Has extra buttons for direct access to XSANE and MTPAINT

Size 2.1 MB +

Here are a few tips:

Scan your image in with XSANE and save it as PNM file (XANE default). Then open this image in MTPAINT and crop as desired. Then save as a TIFF file type. Before you save your image, rescale it larger if necessary so that Tesseract can process it properly. You can access this feature in MTPAINT under the image -> scale canvas menu item
Life is too short to spend it in front of a computer

puppyocr-1.22.pet: 2243 K
Document has to be screenshot in tiff format.
PuppyOcr obtains results as good as Tesseract (that does not mean perfect). I got available old documents (1800, 1850, 1900) transformed as text. It's not an easy job. But these documents were worth the pain (historical)
