Ideas for a clever Puppy to run in 192mg on a Thinkpad 240?

#1 Post by Sky Aisling »

Hello :)

I've been given a lovely little IBM Thinkpad 240 with maximum RAM of 192mg.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a Puppy that will run within 192mg of RAM on this hardware?
Which lightweight browser can be paired with the Puppy?

The Puppy's purpose is to retrieve email and surf the web, any other functions are secondary.
The machine's HDD is 6GB.
A large SWAP partition can be created.
The small footprint of the machine (8"x10"x1") makes the device handy to carry around. Almost as good as a tablet, but, better because it's Puppy.

Thank you in advance for your responses.

PS - I know, I know all the Puppies are clever, quick and adorable.

One of the best puppies I found for use with my low ram laptops (which are mostly Toshiba...) was Gray's "Puppy NOP 4.3.1" teamed up with Flash 9 or 10 (trial and error to find a version that works with your preferred sites...)

I think QtWeb is probably the best lightweight browser I have found (although I haven't tried it with NOP431 yet)

Might be worth trying the Akita16 that Scottman just released (or else try the Akita16 derivative that partsman made with a newer kernel - depends which kernel works best with your hardware)

I too was going to recommend a puppy 4x
I really like 4.31 but maybe 4.12

darry has updated these with newer glibc which may be worth looking at also

:)

Thank you,
Looks like Puppy 4.3.1 does the trick.
